Group: 1
Age: 4+
Prize: £600,000
Distance: One mile
Time: 2:30pm
Our Royal Ascot tip: Mustashry (currently 9/2)
Accidental Agent and Laurens are sure to challenge, but after stealing the headlines at Newbury, Mustashry has a great chance to win again. Sir Michael Stoute is a fantastic trainer of older horses and although it’s rare for a horse to win back-to-back at this level (Frankel excluded), Mustashry is our tip for the opener.
Group: 2
Age: 2
Prize: £150,000
Distance: Six furlongs
Time: 3:05pm
Our Royal Ascot tip: Arizona (currently 8/1)
Trained by Aidan O’Brien, Arizona has great pedigree as the son of No Nay Never, the break-out sire of last year. Don’t be surprised if he follows in the footsteps of War Command and Carravaggio and wins the sprint.
Group: 1
Age: 3+
Prize: £500,000
Distance: Five furlongs
Time: 3:40pm
Our Royal Ascot tip: Battaash (currently 15/8)
It’s hard to overlook Battaash after he showed great pace last year and won the Temple Stakes at Haydock. Charlie Hill’s sprinter has been inconsistent in the past but if he performs like he can, he will be very hard to beat, however, Blue Point is certain to challenge.
Group: 1
Age: 3 (Colts)
Prize: £500,000
Distance: Old Mile
Time: 4:20pm
Our Royal Ascot tip: Too Darn Hot (currently 5/2)
After finishing runner-up at the Irish Guineas, Too Darn Hot and his stablemate King Of Comedy are sure to challenge at the St James’ Palace Stakes. Phoenix Of Spain topped Too Darn Hot at Curragh, but there are plenty of reasons that Too Darn Hot could come out on top this time around.
The fact he’s been able to put in good performances in two high-profile races should boost his chances.
Group: Handicap
Age: 4+
Prize: £90,000
Distance: Two miles, four furlongs
Time: 5:00pm
Our Royal Ascot tip: Mengli Khan (currently 7/1)
Out of the last 18 winners, 16 have come from the National Hunt, so backing a trainer from the world of jump racing is clearly the way to go. Son of Lope De Vega, the six-year-old Mengli Khan has claimed Grade 1 wins over hurdles, and has stepped up to chasing last term impressively, placing in novice contests at Cheltenham and Aintree.
Group: Listed
Age: 4+
Prize: £100,000
Distance: One mile, two furlongs
Time: 5:35pm
Our Royal Ascot tip: Mountain Angel (currently 16/1)
Roger Varian’s hardy five-year-old, Mountain Angel won both starts at Epsom this season and could be ready to step up. Addeybb is one to watch and often flourishes in a large field. He also has form on the round course at Ascot, having snatched victory in a competitive handicap during his three-year-old campaign.
