Quiet Reflection can lift the Commonwealth Cup
Quiet Reflection put in a stunning performance when scoring last time out, so looks a worthy favourite to follow-up in the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup on day four of Royal Ascot (15:40).
The Karl Burke trained filly has won five of her six starts, and had some top class form as a juvenile when winning the Listed Harry Roseberry Stakes at Ayr impressively by four lengths and putting in a polished performance to land the Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes at Ascot.
Quiet Reflection travelled strongly on each occasion before quickening nicely to get the job done, and looked as good as ever on her seasonal reappearance when landing a Group 3 at Chantilly by a head.
Judged on that display, Quiet Reflection looked destined for big things this season, and that view was confirmed when she bolted up in the Group 2 Temple Stakes at Haydock last month.
Blistering turn of foot
After being held-up off the pace by a confident Dougie Costello, the daughter of Showcasing cruised into contention a furlong from home before showing a blistering turn of foot to shoot clear and score by 3 3/4 lengths from Donjuan Triumphant.
It was a performance right out of the top drawer, and this race looks tailor-made for her.
Quiet Reflection is also still lightly raced an open to further improvement and, if turning up in the same for as at Haydock, can provide her owners the Ontoawinner syndicate with a dream first Group 1 success on flat racing’s greatest stage.
Log Out Island the forecast choice
It’s impossible to see Donjuan Triumphant turning around the Haydock form, and Long Out Island looks the most likely one to chase home Quiet Reflection.
The Richard Hannon trained colt was a useful juvenile who bounced back to form in no uncertain fashion when landing a 6f Listed contest at Newbury by 3 1/4 lengths from Remarkable.
Log Out Island blasted out of the stalls to make all in the hands of William Buick, and the runner-up ran very well to finish fifth in Group 3 Jersey Stakes at this meeting earlier in the week.
Vulnerable to something pacy
That gives the form a fairly solid look, but Log Out Island got the run of the race and if the three-year-old tries to burn off his rivals again I can see him being a sitting duck in the closing stages to something with a turn of foot.
Quiet Reflection fits that bill, and Log Out Island will also need to improve further as he is rated 7lb inferior to the selection and has to give her a 3lb sex allowance.
