Royal Ascot 2016: Parade can lead home Ribblesdale rivals

Sovereign Parade can strike gold in Ribblesdale Stakes

Sovereign Parade created a good impression when scoring on debut and can take the step up into Group 2 company in her stride to land the Ribblesdale Stakes on day three of Royal Ascot (15.40).

The John Gosden trained filly was sent off odds-on for a 12-runner maiden at Salisbury last month and got the job done in the manner of a smart prospect.

After being held-up in mid division, the daughter of Galileo made good headway three from home before running green and appearing to have a mountain to climb approaching the final furlong.

However, the penny then began to drop and Sovereign Parade quickened up smartly under a hands and heels ride from Rab Havlin to win going away at the line by a length.

Impressive turn of foot

It was a most taking display and the turn of foot shown by the three-year-old suggested she had a huge engine.

Sovereign Parade is entitled to come on a bundle for that outing, and the fact that connections are pitching her straight into this company speaks volumes.

Gosden doesn’t got tilting at windmills with his horses and also has an excellent record with fillies.

Architecture sets the standard

Trainer Hugo Palmer is enjoying a terrific season, and his Architecture brings the strongest form into the contest and looks sure to go well.

The three-year-old is a very progressive filly who ran a cracker when chasing home Minding in the Investec Oaks at Epsom 13 days ago.

Architecture travelled strongly throughout in the hands of Frankie Dettori but was unable to match the winners’ turn of foot inside the final furlong.

Miles clear on official ratings

However, the daughter of Zoffany stuck to the task well to go down by 1 3/4 lengths and the front two pulled eight lengths clear of the third home.

That gives the form a rock solid look and sets a clear standard, and an official rating of 114 gives Architecture 13lb and upwards in hand on her rivals.

The big question is whether this will come too quick after what was gruelling run in a tough race, and for that reason I think Architecture is worth taking on.

Coral’s top tip: Sovereign Parade is a filly with stacks of potential and looks decent value to land the spoils. Architecture brings Classic form in the contest and is feared most.
