Reynaldothewizard aiming for more Golden Shaheen glory

Published:

Reynaldothewizard is bidding for his second consecutive victory in the Golden Shaheen on Saturday. Last year he just held off the late thrust of Irish raider Balmont Mast under an inspired ride from Richard Mullen but has only been seen twice since.

He did not see any daylight in the Dubawi Stakes in January but put up a much better effort when second to Rich Tapestry on 8th March. He was beaten fair and square by a length and a quarter but should improve and looks ideally situated in stall five.

Rich Tapestry breaks from stall 12 and is an obvious threat. He put up an improved performance last time although he has a lot of ground to make up on Sterling City on Sha Tin form.

Sterling City had Rich Tapestry over five lengths behind when winning the Group 2 Premier Bowl in October. He has since won a Group 3 handicap and looked unlucky when third in the Group 1 Chairman’s Sprint Prize in February.

Godolphin will obviously be keen to get among the winners on Saturday and there has been some support for Complicate here. The five-year-old finished two and a half lengths adrift of Rich Tapestry last time but was staying on strongly at the finish.

Krypton Factor won this race in 2012 and was third last year but has lost his way since. His best run in the UK last year came when third in the Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot and he would have claims on that form.

Russian Soul is also in with a squeak despite finishing in midfield last time out. He had previously beaten Jamesie by a length here in a Group 3 and won at that level at the Curragh in September.

Balmont Mast does not appear to be in quite the same form as when narrowly missing out last year. He was running on well at the finish last time and could have each-way claims.
