Third Act and Minella Aris among tips for Lingfield and Southwell

Third Act to take centre stage at Lingfield

Third Act has shown progressive form this season and looks a worthy favourite to land the 2m handicap hurdle on today’s card at Lingfield (14.40).

Trained by the red-hot Colin Tizzard, the seven-year-old ran really well on return to action at Chepstow when a four length second of 12 to Rocklander.

The winner has since gone on to follow-up off 10lb higher to give the form a solid look, and Third Act duly built on that effort to go one better at Exeter nine days ago when showing good battling qualities to beat Jaunty Inflight by 1 1/2 lengths.

That success came in a conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdle and means that the gelding escapes a penalty.

Third Act is able to race off an unchanged mark of 110, and that makes him 5lb well-in at the weights as he is due to race off a revised rating of 115 in future assignments.

Jockey Paul O’Brien, who partnered him that day, is also now able to utilise all of his 5lb claim and that is going to make Third Act very hard to beat providing this race doesn’t come too quickly.

Greyed A gets top marks in finale

Greyed a ran really well when runner-up last time out and can go on better to land the 2m 3f handicap hurdle that brings proceedings to a close (15.40).

The five-year-old ran well in some warm maiden hurdle contests in Ireland last season, and after shaping is if needed his first run after joining trainer Dr Richard Newland posted a much improved effort when a neck runner-up to Stilo Blue Native on handicap debut at Sedgefield seven days ago.

Greyed A attempted to make virtually all and stuck to the task well until being unable to find no extra close home.

The winner looked a well-handicapped sort going into the race and the pair pulled 12 lengths clear of the third home.

That gives the form a solid look and a reproduction of that run is going to make Greyed A very hard to beat off now turned out quickly off an unchanged mark.

Double chance at Southwell for in-form trainer George

Minella Aris and Sumkindofking look to hold leading claims of providing in-form trainer Tom George with a double on today’s card at Southwell.

The Gloucestershire handler has saddled five winners from his last 11 runners and boasts a terrific strike 23.5 per cent strike rate at the track in the last 12 months.

Minella Harris runs in the 3m novices’ hurdle (13.25) and after being bought for £200,000 after winning an Irish point and ran a stormer when a head runner-up to Chain Gang on hurdling debut at Leopardstown last December when in the care of Aidan O’Brien.

The five-year-old battled on bravely before getting chinned close home and had subsequent winners Road To Respect, Bellow Mome and Fire in His Eyes in behind.

That is very strong form and Minella Aris shaped with plenty of promise on his first start for George when third at Ayr back in March where a bad mistake three from home halted his progress.

The son of King’s Theatre is sure to come on for that experience and this looks a nice opening for him to get off the mark under rules.

Sumkindofking to rule supreme

Sumkindofking looked something special when making a winning debut for George in a bumper at Chepstow earlier in the month and is impossible to oppose in the 2m maiden hurdle (14.30).

The five-year-old, who had previously landed an Irish point, travelled strongly throughout before quickening clear to easily beat Eaton Hill by 12 lengths.

It was an immensely taking performance which suggested Sumkindofking was a very exciting prospect who needed keeping firmly onside and he can take this en route to much better things.
