Saturday’s racing odds, tips and preview

After a busy card at Newmarket for the 1000 and 2000 Guineas last weekend, attention shifts to Ascot, Lingfield and Haydock for today’s televised races.

The Victoria Cup is the standout feature race at Ascot, with a field of 26 running the 7f course, and Lingfield hosts the Derby Trial Stakes with a closely contested field headed by Anthony Van Dyck and Cap Francais.

We cast our eye over the runners and riders to preview and give our tips on the live ITV racing coverage…

Cap Francais – 2:30 Lingfield

The Aidan O’Brien-trained Anthony Van Dyck is favourite to win here, but Cap Francais is best placed to challenge at the front and on his day, has a solid claim to win.

The three-year-old colt was beaten by half a length in his last ride at Epsom in April, but prior to that had two comfortable wins at Haydock and Salisbury.

There’s still plenty of early promise in this horse, and it’s down to Gerald Mosse to get the best out of him in the field of 10 at Lingfield.

Labrega – 3:25 Ascot

After her 268-day break, the four-year-old filly impressed on her return at the all-weather track in Chelmsford, racing to a close third-place finish beaten by a quarter of a length.

He finished strongly that day, but showed plenty of promise throughout the race and could yet improve on the Ascot racecourse.

The Hugo Palmer-trained Labrega had been in decent form prior to her break, with a win at the inner course of Haydock last May following a second-place run, beaten by a neck at Haydock.

Cape Byron – 4:00 Ascot

Cape Byron comes into the Victoria Cup Heritage Handicap well prepared to challenge at the front of the pack.

He finished second to Ripp Orf, also running in this race, back in September by only half a length over course and distance, but can be handy on all types of ground which could prove crucial in the handicap.

If fully turned up, the five-year-old joint-favourite should have the edge on Ripp Orf and Kyren who are both backed for good rides on the Ascot turf too.

ITV Racing Tips:

2:50 Ascot – Salouen

3:10 Haydock – John Constable
