Saturday’s racing odds, tips and preview

The final countdown to this year’s Cheltenham Festival may be well and truly on, but there’s still the matter of weekend racing at Sandown and Wolverhampton today.

Sandown is hosting the Imperial Cup at 2:25 in today’s standout event, with a strong field hoping to stop favourite Monsieur Lecoq running away with the win.

We look ahead to today’s biggest races, complete with another round of tips…

Call Me Lord – 2:25 Sandown

All the statistics point towards another sterling showing from the gelding in the Imperial Cup. He may not be the favourite coming into the race, but after winning three of the last four at Sandown, he’ll put in a mighty challenge.

With a 66% win rate over course and distance, the Nicky Henderson-trained raider is well versed in this event. A seventh-placed finish last time out in a Grade 1 event may not sit well, but he’s back at a track he enjoys running at.

He comes in at top weight at 160, but there’s still a lot of promise to be had from the gelding.

Misty Whisky – 3:00 Sandown

Having not raced over the course and distance, it’s a long shot to be talking up Misty Whisky, but after a success over the distance at Ludlow three months ago, the signs are promising.

The mare has a 100% win rate on similar going over the distance, and is in good hands under Harry Fry.

Jockey Sean Bowen will be hoping to make it two wins from two for the mare over the distance, but she still has a bit more to find to be top of the rank.

Documenting – 3:15 Wolverhampton

A smart gelding when racing over the course and distance with a 50% win rate. Documenting goes just as well over the tapeta surface, winning two of the four previous run-outs.

He’s well placed to compete with the favourite Oh This Is Us for the win, with a career-best run a month ago over the course and distance, cruising to 7l victory ahead of the remaining pack.

The six-year-old should be able to make his presence felt in the race if jockey Jason Hart can get the best out of the Kevin Frost-trained horse in an eight-runner field.

ITV Racing Tips:

2:05 Wolverhampton – Pactolus

2:25 Sandown – Call Me Lord
