The Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year is an annual award given to the player adjudged to have been the best on the field in that season. It’s been around from the 1947/48 season where Blackpool’s Stanley Matthews was the first recipient, with 72 editions in total.
The award has been given out every season since theinception of the Premier League back in the 1992/93 season, with two onlyrepeat winners, meaning there are 24 different winners across the 27 completedseasons.
