Quiet Reflection primed for July Cup bid
Connections of top sprinter Quiet Reflection today reported her to be in “fantastic order” ahead of Saturday’s Group 1 July Cup at Newmarket, for which she is currently 5/1 with Coral.
The Karl Burke trained filly has won six of her seven starts and is unbeaten in three runs this season.
After landing a Group 3 at Chantilly and the Group 2 Temple Stakes at Haydock in scintillating style, the daughter of Showcasing took the step up into Group 1 company in her stride to land the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot.
Potent turn of foot
Quiet Reflection travelled strongly throughout in the hands of a confident Dougie Costello and showed her trade mark turn of foot to score with more in hand than the winning margin of a length suggest.
The three-year-old is set to take on older horses for the first time in the July Cup and Simon Bridge, one of the directors of the Ontoawinner syndicate that own her, said he would not swap her for anything in the line-up.
“Quiet Reflection is in fantastic order,” said Bridge. “She had her last breeze-up before the race this morning and seems to have strengthened up since Royal Ascot.
“She has also put on a bit of weight, which is good, and as long as the ground doesn’t get too firm I am as confident as I can be taking on older horses for the first time.
“The ground was tacky at Ascot and I don’t think she was seen to best effect. I think good ground will be ideal, and she has been working really well and done nothing but progress.”
Weight allowance a big plus
Quiet Reflection receives a 9lb age and sex allowance in the July Cup, and Bridge believes that is a big plus. “I fear horses like Limato and Profitable, but the allowance gives us a big shout,” he continued.
“I would never say she will definitely win, but she is in terrific order and I would not swap her for anything. It’s been an incredible season so far for all her owners, and hopefully that will continue.”
Twilight Son is currently 4/1 favourite with Coral for the July Cup. Quiet Reflection is joint-second favourite with Magical Memory, with Limato and Profitable next best in at 6/1.
