Punters pile into McIlroy at 7-1 for Players Championship

Rory McIlroy has been well backed with bookmaker Coral to win the Players Championship this week where he is available as the 7-1 joint-favourite along with Masters champion Jordan Spieth. Behind the top two in the outright market, Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson can’t be separated at 22-1, while Tiger Woods, who is playing his first tournament since Augusta, has been trimmed by the firm into 35-1 (from 40-1) following each-way support.
“McIlroy’s success in the WGC Match Play Championship at the weekend has convinced punters that the world number one is the player to beat this year at Sawgrass. There has also been plenty of each-way support for Tiger on his return to action following the Masters so once again we’ll be fearing the two biggest names in golf this week,” said Coral’s John Hill.
