Punters enjoy Cesarewitch gamble as Withhold storms home
Published:
Bookmakers were left counting the cost of Withhold’s Cesarewitch
victory today, after the 4-y-o landed a nationwide gamble in the
staying contest. Backed from 12-1 down to 5-1 favouritism, Roger
Charlton’s charge ran out an impressive winner at Newmarket to leave
the layers reeling.
“The Cesarewitch is one of the most popular betting handicaps of the
Flat season, and this was a proper old-fashioned plunge on Withhold
today, which saw his odds plummet from 12-1 down to clear
favouritism,” said Coral’s David Stevens.
“In truth punters never really had a moment’s concern in the race
itself, and his victory will see the industry paying out several
million quid to happy backers,” added Stevens.
