Premier League team of the week
As always, the Premier League was full of twists and turns, and matchweek 36 was no different as Leicester City edged even closer to title success with a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, Newcastle United finally dragged themselves out of the relegation zone, while Manchester City slipped to a 4-2 defeat.
Following the Saturday and Sunday top-flight fixtures, Coral have picked a team of the week. Do you agree with our selections?
Formation: 4-4-2
Goalkeeper: Karl Darlow (Newcastle United)
Stand-in Magpies stopper Darlow made a few saves, on the way to helping Newcastle beat Crystal Palace and thus edge them outside the bottom three, including against Yohan Cabaye from the spot.
Right back: Antonio Valencia (Manchester United)
Mr Dependable Valencia was a nuisance against Leicester City right from the off, and provided Martial with a cross to score in just the eighth minute.
Centre back: Wes Morgan (Leicester City)
Foxes skipper and defender Morgan scored another crucial goal for his side, to cancel out Man Utd forward Martial’s early opener, which now mean Leicester need just two points, or hope Tottenham don’t beat Chelsea on Monday, to win the Premier League.
Centre back: Laurent Koscielny (Arsenal)
The Gunners were not too promising going forward at home against Norwich City, but Koscielny made sure they kept a clean sheet and thus narrow victory to put themselves in a great position in the race to finish in the top four.
Left back: Nacho Monreal (Arsenal)
Like Koscielny, Monreal was highly impressive at the back to help keep out the Canaries from spoiling Arsenal’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League.
Right wing: Sadio Mane (Southampton)
A super hat-trick against Man City in the late Sunday kick-off by Mane meant that Southampton won 4-2 to enhance their Europa League qualification hopes and also hinder the Citizens’ top four chances.
Centre midfield: Mark Noble (West Ham United)
Hammers’ captain fantastic Noble put in yet another fine display to give England boss Roy Hodgson a squad selection headache ahead of Euro 2016, by scoring twice away to West Bromwich Albion.
Centre midfield: Cheikhou Kouyate (West Ham United)
Next to Noble in midfield was Kouyate, who grabbed a goal and also set up the Englishman with an assist in the 3-0 win.
Left wing: Tom Cleverley (Everton)
Like Kouyate, Cleverley provided a goal and assist for his team, as Everton edged Bournemouth to end a terrible run for the Toffees.
Striker: Troy Deeney (Watford)
Deeney’s extraordinary late injury-time double was enough to put him in this team, as the goals saw Watford cruelly snatch away a win for visiting Aston Villa, which would’ve given fans of the relegated outfit at least something to cheer about.
Striker: Andre Ayew (Swansea City)
Usual winger Ayew started up front for the Swans as they hosted a largely second-string Liverpool side ahead of their Europa League semi-final next week, and the Ghana attacker bagged a brilliant brace to help the Welsh outside jump two places in the table.
