Coral’s cracking Premier League XI from matchweek 11
Just when you thought the English top flight couldn’t get more exciting, the Premier League presented another matchweek of thrills, spills and surprise scorelines. So, find out which players starred for their respective clubs to ear a spot in our tremendous team of the week…
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Goalkeeper: Jack Butland (Stoke City)
Right back: Joel Ward (Crystal Palace)
Manchester United may be toothless at the moment but Eagle-eyed right back Ward still had his work cut out to silence the superstars on the Red Devils’ left flank, and was also somewhat of a creative force for Palace down the wing, as well as contributing to the clean sheet.
Centre back: Laurent Koscielny (Arsenal)
Centre back: Nicolas Otemndi (Manchester City)
In the blue half of Manchester, meanwhile, it was Otamendi starring for the Citizens, scoring their only goal from open play against Norwich City, with a thumping header. Oh, and he was also beastly whenever City were on the backfoot too.
Left back: Ryan Bertrand (Southampton)
Continues to prove his worth at St Mary’s with swashbuckling forays down the flank and this time helped his side take the spoils from the first-ever top-tier south coast derby against Bournemouth, as he set-up Steven Davis’ opener with a superb cross.
Central midfield: Danny Drinkwater (Leicester City)
Central midfield: James McCarthy (Everton)
Key to much of Everton’s excellent attacking play going forward, McCarthy proved a menace on the counter, linking his teammates up well with slick one-twos and an assist for Arouna Kone’s second.
Left wing: Arouna Kone (Everton)
Attacking midfield: Philippe Coutinho (Liverpool)
The Brazilian schemer once again came up with goods for Liverpool, striking a deadly double in rather sensational style against Chelsea, nabbing first the equaliser before putting his club ahead. At just 23, there looks much more to come from the maestro.
Right wing: Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City)
Centre forward: Odion Ighalo (Watford)
Now the Hornets highest ever-scoring hitman in the Premier League, exciting Ighalo struck twice and clinically as Watford claimed a crucial win versus West Ham United.
