Premier League relegation odds: Everton 2/1 after points deduction

Everton have been cut to 2/1 in Coral’s Premier League relegation odds after being hit with a 10-point deduction with immediate effect.

The Premier League referred Everton to an independent commission in March for an alleged breach of its profitability and sustainability rules in the period ending in the 2021-22 season.

The rules allow clubs to lose a maximum £105million over a three-year period or face sanctions.

Everton drop to 19th place in the Premier League table on four points following the deduction, and have issued a statement confirming their intention to appeal against the sanction.

Coral’s John Hill said: “Although Everton’s 10-point deduction puts them in the bottom three, we still think there is a good chance they will survive relegation, as Luton, Sheffield United and Burnley all remain odds-on to go down.

“The Toffees were as big as 9/2 in the relegation betting before the deduction, but they are now just 2/1 to lose their top-flight status this season.”

Promoted trio still in trouble

Luton are out of the relegation zone thanks to Everton’s penalty but are 1/5 for the drop after following up their surprising draw with Liverpool by only going down to a 1-0 defeat at Manchester United.

That should give them confidence heading into more winnable fixtures against Crystal Palace and Brentford after the international break.

Town manager Rob Edwards said: “I want to be on more points but in terms of where we are, we are in the fight that we thought we would be in – and everybody probably thought we were going to be in that.

“But we are progressing and improving in the way I hoped. I think we learned pretty quickly after the first two games and since then I think we’ve been harder to beat.”

Sheffield United remain the joint-favourites at 1/5 in the Premier League relegation odds but avoided defeat for only the third time this season last time out with a 1-1 draw at Brighton.

It was the first time United had strung two games together without defeat in the top flight since July 2020 – not that Paul Heckingbottom is worried after a first away point of the season and getting off the bottom.

The Blades boss said: “It is irrelevant – maybe getting off the bottom is important because people keep mentioning it but I’m not bothered. Not yet. What is pleasing is how we’ve played against a good team.

“It is always about the points. I can give lots of reasons why we haven’t picked up more points this season: the way we started the season, final moments in games where we could and should have.

“But until you get them they are just excuses. It is about the points and we want to keep picking up the points.

“There have been moments in every game but in the last two games it has been us being the stronger team at the end and that is what I want to see. It gives us a huge lift.”

Burnley slipped to a predictable 3-1 defeat at Arsenal and are 8/13 in the relegation betting after a run of five straight defeats which has seen them slip to the bottom of the table.

Bournemouth have been eased to 12/5 after beating former manager Eddie Howe’s Newcastle, while Fulham are 13/2 after losing three of their last four games.
