Premier League Final Day: What’s left to be decided?

It’s all about those records…

The midweek fixtures have left the Premier League with a slightly underwhelming final day.

But, there are still a few things left to tie up. And it’s mostly got to do with historic records and a near-miraculous escape route.

The Coral News Team pick four things to watch out for ahead of this weekend’s 38th round of games.

Can Man City hit a century?

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have had a tremendous season. They’ve broken all sorts of records, winning both the Premier League and the Carabao Cup.

In the midweek win over Brighton and Hove Albion, the Citizens broke the Premier League points’ record, squeezing past Chelsea’s 2004-05 total of 95.

Currently on 97, they now have the chance to hit the 100-point barrier against Southampton at St. Mary’s on Sunday.

Swansea praying for a miracle

Huddersfield Town’s remarkable last two results, coupled with Swansea City’s defeat to Southampton, has left the Swans needing divine intervention.

Stranger things have happened in the Premier League. But Carlos Carvalhal’s side need to beat Stoke City at home, and hope that Man City can defeat Saints on the road.

They’re both plausible scenarios. The only problem is the goal difference. Swansea need a 10-goal swing to stay up.

Mo Goals

Mohamed Salah has had a remarkable 2017/18 campaign. The Liverpool forward has managed an incredible 43 goals from 50 game this season.

But the Egyptian King needs just one more to break the Premier League record for most goals in a 38-game season. He’s already equalled it alongside Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, and Luis Saurez.

However, one more would put him out on his own and cap what has been a simply stellar individual performance from the 25-year-old.

Final top-four spot

Chelsea’s failure to beat Huddersfield at Stamford Bridge has made it incredibly difficult for the Blues to make the Champions League.

But the point they earned does still take it to the final day. Tottenham’s win over Newcastle United has guaranteed them a top-four spot.

However, Liverpool need to avoid defeat against Brighton at Anfield now to secure their place.

A win or a draw will be enough to see the Reds into the top-four. But if they lose, and Chelsea beat Newcastle, they’ll miss out.
