Surprise scorelines, heroic hat-tricks and dangerous defenders dominated an enthralling Premier League matchweek seven as the premier league season really gets going.
So, read on to find out which unlikely heroes and sensational superstars were drafted in to our terrific team of the week after dazzling performances…
Right back: Hector Bellerin (Arsenal)
Robust down the right, his charging runs opened-up plenty of space down the flank, with the Spaniard playing a crucial role in Arsenal’s second at the King Power Stadium. Hard to believe the Catalan is still just 20.
Centre back: Daley Blind (Manchester United)
Another Dutch master features here, as Blind yet again was crucial in Man Utd building from the back. Sunderland could not contain the scheming centre half, who contributed a pin-point cross-field pass for United’s opening goal. Keeping a clean sheet also helps.
Left back: Nacho Monreal (Arsenal)
The Gunners are also strong on the left defensive flank, due to another flying Spanish full back. Mischievous Monreal nabbed two assists, including a cracking cross for Olivier Giroud’s effort.
Defensive midfield: Eric Dier (Tottenham)
Versatile Dier helped Spurs bounce back from a dreadful first half, with the English defender’s opportunistic and well-struck equaliser also crucial in Tottenham’s tenacious fightback.
Central midfield: James Milner (Liverpool)
Fantastically found the net against his former club Aston Villa within the first two minutes, and was a hub of energy and creativity throughout, adding an assist to his tally following lovely link-up play with a striker who features further down this list.
Right wing: Erik Lamela (Tottenham)
This kind of performance is why Tottenham have persevered with Argentine attacker Lamela. Reminiscent of his Roma days, the wingman ran Man City ragged in the second half, contributing an assist but most notably dancing around the guests’ defence to slot home.
Striker: Daniel Sturridge
What a way to announce your return proper. Having been sidelined for a significant spell with injury again, Sturridge looked sharp and reminded the Reds (12/5 for a top four finish) of the potency and movement they have been missing up top.
A brilliant brace, with two cool and composed trademark strikes, was not a bad haul for this forward’s first full 90 minutes, and is one that makes him Liverpool’s most potent Premier League-era striker.
