Upsanddowns, Solway Trigger and Kai Broon worth punts at Perth

Perth punts: Upsanddowns to keep up handler’s great record
Trainer Evan Williams does well with his rare runners at Perth, so Upsanddowns can take advantage of a drop in class to land the 2m handicap chase on today’s card at the Scottish venue (15:40).
This gelding had some useful bumper for to his name in Ireland, including when third to former Cheltenham Festival winner Wicklow Brave at Tipperary.
Upsanddowns went on to score twice over hurdles in his first season for Williams to be rated 138 at his peak, but is now able to race off a career-low rating of 118.
That makes the eight-year-old dangerously well-treated on the pick of his form, and Upsanddowns shaped with plenty of promise on his first run this season when third in a class 3 beginners’s chase at Newton Abbot off 7lb higher.
This class 4 contest is easier, so looks a nice opportunity for Upsanddowns to open his account over the larger obstacles at decent odds.
Solway Trigger handicapped to strike
In the 3m handicap hurdle that gets proceedings underway (14:10), Solway Trigger looks decent value to cash-in on a drop in the weights and secure a first success under rules.
Lisa Harrison’s seven-year-old is yet to get his head in front in 14 starts but did post some really solid efforts to make the frame last season.
They included a 2 3/4 length second to Marawek in this contest off a mark of 73 and Solway Trigger is now able to race off 1lb lower.
It gives the gelding every chance from a handicapping perspective, and he comes into the contest on the back of a pipe-opener at Sedgefield following 318 days on the sidelines which should have put him spot on for this.
Kai Broon fancied to bounce back
Kai Broon has become dangerously well-treated and looks the answer to the 2m 4f handicap chase (16:40).
The Lucinda Russell trained gelding was last successful at Hexham 15 months ago when bolting up by 20 lengths off a mark of 99.
Kai Broon got hit hard by the assessor and put up to 114 for that runaway success and it’s fair to say that he has struggled since.
However, that has resulted in the handicapper cutting the nine-year-old plenty of slack and he is now able to race off a reduced rating of just 94.
That is 5lb lower than when last victorious and gives Kai Broon major claims at the weights, if bouncing back to anything like his best.
