His bread and butter though is defending. The 6ft 3in centre-back could prove an immovable force in the Panama back-line.

However, he may have to write another Hollywood style script in this one.

Perez is another evergreen striker that Los Canaleros couldn’t afford to leave out of this squad.

The 37-year-old was named the best player at the 2007 Gold Cup and is tied on 43 goals for his country with team-mate Tejada.

Whether he starts the game or not, it’s certain he’ll make his presence felt at some point.
