Parliamentarian and Gin In The Inn among tips for Salisbury and Windsor

Parliamentarian stars in our Salisbury tips.

Parliamentarian has plenty going for him at Salisbury

Parliamentarian posted a solid effort when runner-up last time out and can go one better to get back to winning ways in the 1m 6f handicap on today’s card at Salisbury (17.20).

The Charlie Appleby trained three-year-old looked a good prospect when winning his first two starts this season, landing a maiden at Hamilton before showing a tremendous attitude to beat St Michel by a short-head on handicap debut at Sandown.

St Michel is a really progressive sort who has won twice since and finished third in the Group 3 Doncaster Cup to be rated 112 and that gives the form a rock solid look.

Parliamentarian was then off the track for 64 days before chasing home Yangtze on return to action at Haydock last month.

The Godolphin owned gelding shaped as if needing the run and, although no match for the easy 3 1/2 length winner, stuck to the task well.

Yangtze, to whom the selection was conceding 9lb, has since come out and run very well to finish third in a competitive class 2 contest at York and it makes the lightly-raced and progressive Parliamentarian look nicely treated in this class 3 affair off an unchanged mark of 90.

Funny Oyster to have the last laugh

Funny Oyster looks well-weighted on the pick of her form and decent value to open her account in the 7f handicap (15.20).

The filly, who is trained by George Baker, is yet to get her head in front in 12 starts but has posted a number of solid efforts to make the frame.

They include a second of nine to Medburn Dream in a class 5 contest at Windsor off a mark of 56 where she kept on well to be beaten two lengths.

The winner has gone on to win three times since to be rated 86 and the third and fourth home have also gone on to taste success.

It gives the form a solid look in the context of this lower grade class 6 contest and suggests that Funny Oyster’s current mark of 57 is exploitable.

It’s Gin time at Windsor

Gin In The Inn is a sprinter at the top of his game and looks worth a wager at the odds on offer in the 6f handicap on today’s card at Windsor (16.00).

The Richard Fahey trained three-year-old scored in terrific style three starts back at Pontefract when coming from off the pace and storming clear to beat Van Gerwen by 2 3/4 lengths off a mark of 72.

Van Gerwen has come out and won since to give the form a boost and Gin In The Inn has gone on to post two solid efforts to finish fourth at Lingfield and an eye-catching fifth of 11 to Lincoln at Pontefract.

The selection was denied a clear run in the latter before staying on to be nearest at the finish and beaten 2 3/4 lengths off a mark of 84.

Granted a clear passage, Gin In The Inn would have gone close and he has since been dropped 1lb to a mark of 77.

The gelding also now gets the services in the saddle of crack apprentice Adam McNamara and, taking his 5lb claim into account, Gin In The Inn is running off a same rating as when successful at Pontefract and looks weighted to get back on the scoresheet.

Class-dropping Persun worth a punt

Persun caught the eye last time out and looks decent value to cash-in on a drop in class to land the spoils in the 1m 2f handicap (16.30).

The Mick Channon trained filly produced her best effort of the season when staying on from off the pace to finish a nearer 3 3/4 length fourth of 10 to Sharja Queen in a hot class 2 handicap at Newmarket.

Persun is now able to race in off 1lb lower and takes a marked step down into class 4 company.

It makes the four-year-old a major player if building on her latest effort, and Persun’s current rating off 81 is just 1lb higher than when last victorious in a class 3 contest at Epsom 12 months ago.

With the stable also in good form, the daughter of Sir Percy looks to have plenty going for her, in what looks a very winnable contest for the grade.
