Milan Bound holds major claims of repeat success
Jockey Barry Geraghty has his first ride following a lengthy spell on the sidelines through injury on Milan Bound, in the 3m 2f handicap hurdle on an excellent card at Newton Abbot (15.00), and the Jonjo O’Neill trained gelding looks to hold leading claims of making it a winning one.
The eight-year-old has won four of his 13 starts over hurdles, with the last of those successes coming over course and distance in this contest 12 months ago, where he battled on gamely to beat Rydon Pynes by a head off a mark of 130.
Milan Bound is now able to race off just 1lb higher and reverts to the smaller obstacles, having won well when last seen in action on his second start over fences at Uttoxeter back in July.
It gives the J P McManus owned son of Milan major claims from a handicapping perspective and connections will surely have him spot on to try and provide their retained rider with a comeback winner.
It’s all about Supply And Demand
O’Neill also looks to hold leading claims of landing the 2m 2f novices’ hurdle, which get proceedings underway (13.55) with Supply And Demand.
The five-year-old went into my notebook as one to follow when a highly promising sixth to Captain Chaos on debut at Uttoxeter back in November.
After being held-up well off the pace, the son of Scorpion made good headway three from home before weakening approaching the last to be beaten just over 11 lengths.
Supply And Demand was given a very tender introduction and the form of the race has worked out well.
The winner has gone on to score again since and the second, fourth and fifth have also gone on to taste success.
Supply And Demand is sure to come on a bundle for that experience, is bred to be above average, and returns to action in what looks very winnable class 4 contest.
Brother Tedd can collect on chasing debut
Brother Tedd had some very useful form to his name as a hurdler and can make a winning debut over the larger obstacles in the 2m 5f Intermediate Chase (15.35).
The Philip Hobbs trained gelding showed progressive form in 2014/15 when scoring three times, and put in a smart performance on return to action last season when quickening clear to beat Silviniaco Conti by four lengths at Kempton.
Brother Tedd backed that up with a cracking 2 1/2 length third to the classy Rock On Ruby in the Grade 2 Coral Hurdle at Ascot off an official rating of 155, and went on to finish a fine seventh of 26 to Diamond King in the ultra-competitive Coral Cup at the Cheltenham Festival.
The form of those races is extremely strong and the seven-year-old has the size and scope to suggest he will be just as good over fences.
Brother Tedd has also reportedly been schooling well at home, goes well fresh, and with champion jockey Richard Johnson in the saddle can take this en route to much better things.
