A fascinating ladies’ singles competition comes to a conclusion at the All England Club on Saturday when current world number one Ashleigh Barty takes on former world number one Karolina Pliskova.

Barty v Pliskova odds
This will be a first final at the All England Club for both Barty and Pliskova. It is Pliskova’s second Grand Slam final, having finished as runner-up at the US Open in 2016, while 2019 French Open champion Barty is chasing her second major title.
Barty is the favourite at 11/25 after a 6-3 7-6 straight-sets victory over Angelique Kerber and the 25-year-old Australian has not lost a set since the opening round.
She will now have the chance to emulate her idol on the 50th anniversary of compatriot Evonne Goolagong’s first Wimbledon title.
Barty has been in supreme form over the last two weeks, which is all the more surprising since she had been suffering with a hip injury which forced her to retire from her second-round match at the French Open.
She had to battle back from 5-2 down in the second set against Kerber – who had won her previous 10 grass-court matches – but did so with a combination of raking cross-court forehand winners and a sublime return of serve.
Barty pressured Kerber’s first serve and continued to land winners, before dominating the second-set tie-break, where she held six match points before eventually closing it out 7-3.
The first Australian woman to reach a final since Goolagong’s second victory in 1980, Barty has always professed her love of grass-court tennis, despite winning her first slam on the Roland Garros clay.
Standing in her way of a second major is 29-year-old Pliskova, who herself is a first-time Wimbledon finalist. Until this year, she had not passed the fourth round.
While she reached the 2016 US Open final, she has never made it this far in any of the majors since.
It was not an easy semi-final for the eighth seed, who had to come from a set down to defeat number two seed Aryna Sabalenka 5-7 6-4 6-4.
Sabalenka struggled against the Czech’s serve and only managed one break point in the first set, which Pliskova lost by virtue of a double fault. It is the only set she has lost at Wimbledon this year.
However, Pliskova dropped just two points on serve before going a break-to-love up in the fifth game of the second set and took the match to a decider. Having raced to a 2-0 lead in the third set, she did not give an inch to her opponent, who served 18 aces.
Having held serve and wrapping things up with an ace, her 13th of the contest, she moved into the final and is 2/1 to lift the Venus Rosewater Dish.
Barty v Pliskova head-to-head meetings
The pair have met seven times before with Barty winning five of those contests, including the last three.
The last two, at the 2019 WTA Championships (indoor hard court) and this year’s quarter-final clash in Stuttgart (clay) went the distance.
Pliskova took their previous grass court clash – in the quarter-finals at Nottingham in 2016 – in straight sets, with both going to tie-breaks.
Given that Pliskova’s booming first serve is again likely to see Barty using all her defensive talents to keep her title dreams alive, the 3/4 odds for Pliskova to win at least one set may well look enticing in terms of Barty v Pliskova betting tips.
Four of their last seven meetings went to three sets and each time the victor lost the opening set. It is 4/1 for either player to lose the first set and go on to win the match.
