There is a new event on the PGA Tour this week and we’re taking a look at the outright odds for some Mexico Open betting tips.
The Vidanta Vallarta course, designed by Greg Norman, is the venue this week despite having only opened six years ago.
Here we assess the chances of the leading contenders in the Mexico Open odds, plus pick out some other contenders to consider.
Jon Rahm
The Spaniard is the clear favourite at 9/2 as the only top-10 player taking part and is undoubtedly the best player in the field on his day.
He has not been at his best so far this year, though, and is no longer top of the world rankings. The 27-year-old is currently ranked 173rd for strokes gained around the green and 132nd in putting on the PGA Tour, as well as 196th for sand saves.
Rahm is yet to win a tournament in 2022, although he did finish runner-up at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, so there are good reasons to oppose him this week even in a weak field.
Abraham Ancer
Ancer is flying the flag for Mexico on home soil this week at 14/1 but will he rise to the challenge or buckle under the pressure?
His recent performances have not exactly suggested a second PGA Tour win is just around the corner, with a tie for fifth at the World Match Play his best finish in 2022 but he missed the cut in two events either side of that.
Gary Woodland
Woodland comes into the event with some decent form behind him, having finished in the top 10 in three of his last six starts to climb back into the world’s top 100.
Missed the cut at The Masters last time out but that was due to his putting on the Augusta greens. The layout here will suit his power off the tee and Woodland looks the biggest threat to Rahm at 18/1.
Tony Finau
Finau is another player whose game should make him a contender on these wide fairways.
He has two top-10 finishes in Mexico previously and has been relatively consistently recently without really threatening to add to his Northern Trust victory in August.
This looks as good a chance as he will get to claim another title and he is 18/1 to do so.
Best of the rest
Ancer is the leading Mexican challenger this week but compatriot Carlos Ortiz may be better value for Mexico Open betting tips at 66/1.
He was runner-up at El Camaleon in November, finishing just ahead of the likes of Justin Thomas and Scottie Scheffler, and is an ambassador for Vidanta Resorts so should have plenty of course experience here.
Cameron Champ’s 2021 season ended early due to injury and he has been slow to get going this year but finishing 10th at the Masters bodes well.
His distance off the tee means he is also worth considering this week at 40/1.
