Odds and preview for the four-day tournament

The European Tour is in Rome this week at the Marco Simone GC as we look at the odds to find some Italian Open betting tips.

This course will host the Ryder Cup in 2023 and with Race to Dubai points on offer, many of Europe’s bigger names are in the 156-man line-up, including four of the world’s top 50.

Marco Simone GC is a par-72, 7,268-yards course designed by Jim Fazio and David Mezzacane.

Previous winners include Francesco Molinari, Tyrrell Hatton, Thorbjorn Olesen and Bernd Wiesberger, who all return in a bid to take the title won last year by Ross McGowan.

Market leaders

Matthew Fitzpatrick (12/1) and Tommy Fleetwood (14/1) head the market but close behind is Wiesberger, who will be kicking himself after letting slip victory at the European Masters.

Leading by one heading to the last hole, he found water guarding the green for a double-bogey and handed a third Tour win to 20-year-old Dane Rasmus Hojgaard.

A Weisberger win would have seen the Austrian take Shane Lowry’s ninth place as an automatic Ryder Cup European team member.

The 35-year-old eight-time European Tour winner, successful in Denmark at the Made in HimmerLand tournament in May, and T5 at the BMW International Open, is a 20/1 chance after finishing a shot behind Hojgaard.

Italy’s Francesco Molinari produced a couple of good rounds in the Swiss Alps and is a 33/1 chance and is potential each-way value.

Marcus Armitage (pictured below) was four shots down at Crans and tied for fourth place, getting off to a great start with a 63, only to be let down by his second round 73.

The Porsche European Open winner is very capable of following up that success in Hamburg with a second European Tour success and this course suits his game. Armitage is a 45/1 shot in the Italian Open betting tips this week.

At larger odds

Dutchman Joost Luiten has been consistent this year, with six top-12 finishes in his last 10 completed tournaments, including a T12 at the Czech Masters a couple of weeks ago.

The 35-year-old is overdue a win on the Tour after not getting to the winning post in front since his Oman Open success in 2018 and is a 55/1 shot.

Luiten’s compatriot Wil Besseling has been knocking on the door at several events this year, with a T18 at the Cazoo Open, T30 at the Hero Open, T29 at the Cazoo Classic and a T13 at Crans last weekend.

He has only missed the cut in one of his last 10 events and Besseling is 55/1 to break his Tour duck.

Elsewhere

Nicolas Colsaerts has had an indifferent couple of years but his last two performances have been worthy of note.

His 74 on the second day at Crans-sur-Sierre was a blip, sandwiched between a pair of 65s, and he ended the European Masters six shots behind.

The Belgian was T18 at the European Masters, which followed his T18 at the Cazoo Open, and he is quietly coming back to the form that saw him win the French Open a couple of years ago.

Colsaerts is striking the ball well with his irons and is 80/1 to win in the Italian Open betting tips this weekend.

Likewise, it would be a surprise if Renato Paratore went well. He is 80/1 to win on home turf after a fine T7 at Crans.

Defending champion McGowan, who won this event at Chervo Golf Club in San Vigilio di Pozzolengo last year by a shot from Luke Lawrie and Colsaerts, showed his good form in Switzerland.

He finished three shots behind Hojgaard for a T4 finish and is 200/1 to successfully defend his title.
