Preview and odds for Sunday’s race
Lewis Hamilton has been so dominant at the Circuit de Catalunya that it is hard to look anywhere else than the Mercedes driver for victory in our Spanish Grand Prix betting tips.
With two wins from three so far this season the British driver is unsurprisingly 11/10 for the victory with Max Verstappen the only driver to stop Hamilton’s win streak so far this season when he won the Emilia Romagna GP ahead of his title rival. Hamilton can also be backed at 5/1 to win the race and post the fastest lap.
Red Bull’s Verstappen is 7/5 to occupy the top step of the podium but will have his work cut out to prevent Hamilton from adding to race wins in Bahrain and Portugal and making it five victories in a row in Spain.
Valtteri Bottas (7/1) and Sergio Perez (10/1) occupy the next two places in the odds for Mercedes and Red Bull respectively.
The race starts on Sunday at 2pm and is live on Sky Sports F1.
Norris to finish on the podium again?
Lando Norris will hope to add to his solitary podium finish this season when the young British driver bids to enhance his blooming reputation in Spain.
Norris has attracted many admirers with his consistency – he has finished fourth, third and fifth in the three races for McLaren so far this season – and is 4/1 to grab a second podium finish of the season at Barcelona.
While Norris has been grabbing the headlines there are others who have eyes on the podium in Spain. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc is also 4/1, McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo can be backed at 7/1 or four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel, who now plies his trade for Aston Martin, comes in at 40/1 for a return to the podium.
In the crazy world of F1 it is not unheard of for the last driver into the first turn being one of the first out so the likes of Vettel and fellow former champion Fernando Alonso, at 14/1 in the Alpine F1 car, could profit from the mistakes of others.
Famous names count for nothing in the battle of the team-mates
Mick Schumacher v Nikita Mazepin (Haas)
Mick Schumacher carries one of the most famous names in the sport but the young German is more focused on the here and now and that means beating Haas team-mate Nikita Mazepin.
In the head to head Schumacher has had the upper hand in all three races this season and is 1/4 to make it four in a row, with his Russian team-mate 5/2.
Sebastian Vettel v Lance Stroll (Aston Martin)
Another name steeped in racing history is Aston Martin and the team is currently seeing Vettel slowly turning around a poor start to the season to get the better of team-mate Lance Stroll.
Having gone from championship contender to also ran, the German has much to do to enhance his damaged reputation but at 4/6 could well put his Canadian team-mate (11/10) in the shade for the second successive race.
Fernando Alonso v Esteban Ocon (Alpine)
Fernando Alonso is another ex-champion with much ground to make up over at Alpine where he has finished lower than French team-mate Esteban Ocon on all three occasions this season.
Going into his home race the Spaniard is 8/11 to bring about a reversal of fortunes while Ocon is 10/11.
