Max Verstappen and Red Bull will return to Canada this week with a spring in their step after a miserable race for Ferrari in Azerbaijan left them trailing in the championship standings.

The reigning world champion led a Red Bull one-two in Baku after both Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz were forced to retire with engine problems.

Verstappen, who now leads his team-mate Sergio Perez by 21 points and is 34 clear of Leclerc, is 10/11 to rack up another win as we preview the Canadian Grand Prix betting odds.

Canada is back

F1 heads to the streets of Montreal for the first time since 2019 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Its recent history has belonged to Lewis Hamilton, who will arrive looking for a record-breaking eighth win in the race after winning four of the last five editions. He is a massive 33/1 to do so this weekend.

That is because Hamilton is yet to win a race this season and expressed doubts over whether he would even be able to race in Canada due to the pain caused by his ‘porpoising’ Mercedes.

The 37-year-old has confirmed he will race and, after profiting from Ferrari’s misfortune, claimed an impressive fourth in Azerbaijan. He is 1/2 to finish in the top six.

Hamilton has been beaten by his new team-mate George Russell at every race since the season opener.

The 24-year-old has finished in the top eight at every race despite Mercedes’ struggles and remarkably is fourth in the drivers’ standings.

Mercedes are 8/11 for a double top-six finish and Russell is 4/9 to get the better of Hamilton again.

Ferrari need to find race form

The engine problems in Azerbaijan could prove fatal for Ferrari and Charles Leclerc’s fading title hopes.

Leclerc led Verstappen by as many as 46 points after the third round in Australia – the scene of his last win – on April 10. But he now trails the Dutchman by 34 points in the championship standings.

The Monegasque is certain to face engine penalties as the season goes on having already reached his maximum allocation of three turbochargers. His first of those penalties may come in Canada.

Reliability aside, Ferrari have struggled to match Red Bull in race performance but have dominated qualifying. Leclerc has been on pole for the last four races and is 3/4 to make it five in a row.

Ferrari are 9/4 to fix their race issues and land a double podium finish in Canada.

Alpine speed a weapon in Montreal

Fernando Alonso landed an impressive seventh last weekend and was a thorn in the side of a number of cars due to Alpine’s impressive top speed on Baku’s long straights.

That straight-line speed helped keep cars at bay while aiding overtaking and could be a big help to Alonso and Esteban Ocon again on the low-downforce circuit of Montreal.

Another double points finish in Canada is available at 7/5 while the 40-year-old Alonso is 7/4 for a top-six finish at a track where he won in 2006 and has been on the podium three times.
