Preview and odds for Sunday’s race

Lewis Hamilton will bid to breathe life into his World Championship quest on home soil this weekend as we look at some British Grand Prix betting tips.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen opened up a commanding 32-point lead with a dominant win at the Austrian Grand Prix – where Hamilton could finish only fourth.

The Dutchman has won four of the last five races, with Red Bull winning all five, but Silverstone is a track where Mercedes have dominated in recent years and Hamilton will be seeking an eighth win at his home race.

The title battle leads the agenda on a weekend of innovation as we take a look at some British Grand Prix betting tips.

Mercedes’ last roll of the dice?

Red Bull’s recent dominance has left Mercedes – who have won the last seven drivers’ and constructors’ championships – needing to find answers and quickly.

They are bringing a package of upgrades to Silverstone which they will hope can close the gap in performance to Red Bull. It will need to but they also have the advantage of the track.

Mercedes have won seven of the last eight British Grand Prixs – but Verstappen did win last season’s 70th Anniversary Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Hamilton is 13/8 to win at Silverstone and begin closing the title gap on Verstappen, who is 8/11 for a fifth win in a row.

Sergio Perez, F1, British Grand Prix betting tips

Sergio Perez clinched another podium in Austria and is available at 12/1 for a race win and evens to make the podium. McLaren’s Lando Norris delivered another fine display last time out and is priced at 5/2 for a top-three finish in the British Grand Prix betting tips.

Sprint format gets debut run

F1’s new sprint race is trialled for the first time at Silverstone, with all eyes fixed on how it works ahead of a possible introduction in future seasons.

The teams will take part in a 100km race to decide the starting grid for the grand prix while there are also points available for the top three finishers.

A three-part qualifying session will take place on Friday to determine the grid for the sprint race, which means all three days will see competitive action.

Verstappen is the 8/11 favourite to start the race on pole by winning the sprint, with Hamilton priced at 7/4. Their team-mates Perez and Valtteri Bottas are both 12/1 to start Sunday at the front of the grid.

Sainz growing into Ferrari battle

It took a few races for Sainz to feel at home in the Ferrari hot seat after his move from McLaren but the Spaniard is starting to deliver in a car that is off the pace compared to the top teams.

Sainz has finished higher than team-mate Charles Leclerc in the last three races and is available at 23/20 to get the better of the battle once again this weekend.

Ferrari have lost ground in their ‘best of the rest’ fight with McLaren as the British team have opened up a 19-point lead in the standings. Ferrari are 9/4 to have two cars inside the top six at Silverstone while McLaren are 6/4 to do the same in the British Grand Prix betting tips.
