Mayweather v Paul betting tips: ‘Money’ big favourite in Miami

Floyd Mayweather, the former five-weight world champion regarded as one of the greatest boxers of all time, will take on YouTube star Logan Paul in an exhibition bout in Miami on Sunday.

Mayweather retired from his professional career in the ring in 2017 with a perfect 50-0 record but has since beaten Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in a December 2018 exhibition fight.

The nature of the contest against Paul means Mayweather’s unbeaten record is not on the line and the American is 1/8 to win the eight-round clash.

Can Paul pull off one of sport’s biggest upsets?

One of the great boxers of his generation fighting an opponent whose only previous professional bout ended in defeat to fellow youtuber KSI two years ago looks extremely one-sided on paper.

However, Paul has been priced at 9/2 to win in our Mayweather v Paul betting tips– presumably based on his considerable weight advantage.

Paul is to weigh in at under 190 lbs for the fight, which is the cruiserweight limit and five weight classes higher than welterweight, which was Mayweather’s classification in the latter stages of his career.

Mayweather is likely to weigh in at close to 160 pounds – a career-high mark – but he has never encountered an opponent of Paul’s stature, with the 26-year-old 15 centimetres taller and much heavier than the 44-year-old.

Can Mayweather keep his cool after fiery build-up?

Mayweather is no stranger to a pre-fight circus, embarking on an unprecedented press tour before fighting MMA star Conor McGregor in his last professional boxing match.

That tour turned nasty on more than one occasion with plenty of personal comments on both sides.

However, Showtime president Stephen Espinoza told Sky Sports he had “never seen (Mayweather) that angry” after Paul’s brother Jake, who is also a YouTube star turned boxer, stole his hat recently.

Jake Paul’s antics prompted a brawl involving several members of Mayweather’s security team and Logan’s younger sibling has since commemorated the moment by showing off a new “gotcha hat” tattoo on social media.

‘Money’ Mayweather lives up to his name

Mayweather has described the fight at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium as “an epic event” – and it certainly will be for his bank balance.

The 44-year-old could reportedly earn as much as $100million for eight rounds of work.

Paul’s share of the purse is expected to be up to $20million, although he is reportedly to be fined $100,000 per pound if he weighs in above the 190-pound limit.
