Formula One race preview and latest odds

Lewis Hamilton enjoyed a fairy-tale season last year as he raced to his sixth Formula One championship – and now he’s got Michael Schumacher’s record in his sights.

The 2020 Formula One season kicks off in Australia this weekend, with Hamilton looking to pick up where he left off in December.

The 35-year-old enjoyed a stunning 2019 and he’s the clear favourite to retain his crown this year.

And another impressive campaign could see him make history.

Australian Grand Prix

The Melbourne track is where Hamilton burst onto the Formula One scene and he’s 11/10 to top the podium this weekend.

The Brit finished second behind Valtteri Bottas down under last year and his Mercedes rival is 7/2 to repeat the feat.

Max Verstappen is going at 4/1, while Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel are priced at 4/1 and 5/1 respectively.

Schumacher’s record

With seven championships to his name, Schumacher remains the most decorated driver in F1 history.

But a successful 2020 will see Hamilton draw level with the German and our traders have him priced at 4/5 to finish on top.

The Mercedes driver won 11 races on his way to glory last year and he’s 10/11 to cross the line first over 9.5 times this time around.

And after impressing in testing, Hamilton is 6/5 to finish the campaign with over 5.5 fastest laps.

Who will challenge Hamilton?

Despite being the clear favourite to win the championship, Hamilton will face stiff competition from his opponents.

Verstappen is next in the betting at 5/1 after finishing third last year, while 2019 runner-up Bottas is priced at 11/2.

Meanwhile, Ferrari driver Vettel is an outside bet at 12/1 and Leclerc is going at 13/2.

And if you’re feeling patriotic, British drivers Lando Norris and George Russell are priced at 750/1 and 2000/1 respectively.
