The two British heavyweights could finally face off thisyear
Anthony Joshua v Tyson Fury. The fight everybody wants tosee. And we could finally be set to witness the clash of the titans.
The pair are without question among the best heavyweights inthe world, British or otherwise.
Joshua is the current WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO title holder, while Fury boasts the WBC and The Ring magazine belts. So who wouldn’t wantto see them go head-to-head to be crowned the undisputed heavyweight championof the world?
Tension has been building for what seems like forever and Furyhas called out Joshua on several occasions.
And despite being accused of ducking the fight in the past,it seems Eddie Hearn’s golden child is finally ready to step up.
But who would win?
Anthony Joshua
Rewind a year or so and there were suggestions that Joshuawas refusing to fight Fury as he was worried about losing his unbeaten record.
Well, defeat to Andy Ruiz Jr. last June ended that speculationand after earning his redemption by coming back strongly in the rematch, Joshuais back on an upward curve.
Reports have suggested the 30-year-old’s camp have beenapproached about setting up the fight, although it’s unclear when sport will begiven the go ahead to resume.
Eyebrows were raised when he suggested he didn’t prepareproperly for his initial clash with Ruiz Jr. but following Fury’s dismantlingof Wilder in February, Joshua would be wise not to take this lightly.
Tyson Fury
No secret has been made of the Gypsy King’s tumultuousjourney over the last few years. More than two-and-a-half years out of the ringand struggles with alcohol, drugs and his mental health threatened to derail hiscareer.
But Fury has enjoyed a remarkable comeback, is in the shapeof his life and has the form to match after stunning Wilder in one of this era’sgreat boxing performances.
The American has activated a rematch clause meaning Furywill go toe-to-toe with him again at some point but with the uncertainty surroundingboxing at the moment, their proposed October bout will likely be rescheduled, meaning a fight with Joshua could happen first.
So who would win?
The unbeaten Fury is the odds-on favourite at the moment, with our traders pricing him at 1/2. The 31-year-old has three inches on his opponent in both height and reach and his recent performances are evidence of his hunger to win the belts.
It’s not often Joshua has found himself as the underdog but he’s currently going at 13/8. However, one poor performance doesn’t define a boxer and with plenty to prove, plus his superior speed and movement, AJ will be determined to make this fight closer than the current odds suggest.
