Preview and odds for Week 2

The Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers had big road wins in Week 1 and they clash on Sunday so we have studied the odds to bring you the Week 2 NFL betting tips.

The Eagles won big in Atlanta while the 49ers went to Detroit and escaped with a win as the Lions rallied late.

We look at a selection of Sunday’s NFL Week 2 games, with the best live and uninterrupted coverage on Sky’s NFL Red Zone from 6pm BST.

San Francisco 49ers at Philadelphia Eagles

The 49ers face an awkward trip the east coast in an early time slot, yet they are 1/2 favourites to win on the Money Line (outright).

How awkward? From 2001 to 2015, there were 374 NFL games where the road team faced a ‘morning body-clock start time’. The home team won 64.4% of those games, compared to 57.2% rate for home team in general.

The Niners cruised past the Lions last week, although just about covered the 7.5-point handicap after the Detroit fought back from 38-10 down in the third quarter to get within eight points (41-33).

Philadelphia showed they were strong in the trenches against the Falcons, romping to a 32-6 road win, and are 13/8 underdogs, with a field-goal handicap in favour of the 49ers (10/11 to successfully concede 3.5-points) in the NFL betting tips.

The Niners will enter an intense and hostile atmosphere at Lincoln Financial Field, with this being the first full-capacity meaningful game since they lost to the Seahawks in January 2020.

The Eagles have covered five of the last six handicaps at home while the Niners are 3-7 against the spread (ATS) in their last 10 games.

They don’t match up particularly well against the Eagles, yet Philadelphia still have a few defensive questions to answer.

Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys, NFL betting tips

Dallas Cowboys at Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers got off to a great start with a 20-16 win at Washington Football Team while the Cowboys put up a good show in going down 31-29 to Super Bowl champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Chargers QB Justin Herbert completed 31 of 47 passes for 337 yards and a TD against Washington and Dak Prescott (pictured above) passed for 403 yards and three TDs in Tampa.

Amari Cooper was Prescott’s favourite target and he snared 13 receptions for 139 yards and two receiving TDs.

There is little to choose on the book, with the Chargers 4/6 to win with the Cowboys 5/4 to win and 4/5 in receipt of 3.5-points on the handicap.

The Chargers were 4-3 ATS last season when playing as at least 2.5-point favourites while the Cowboys, a team that is usually over-bet, especially by the American public, failed to cover the spread in 11 of their 16 attempts.

Chargers’ games last season went over the points-total line nine of 16 times and it is 4/5 there will be over 53.5 total points in the game in the NFL betting tips.

Kansas City Chiefs at Baltimore Ravens

The Chiefs were given all they could handle against the Cleveland Browns but came through 33-29 in a home win last Sunday while the Ravens lost 33-27 in overtime at the Las Vegas Raiders.

They are favourites to make the Super Bowl for the third successive year and the Ravens are expected to at least reach the play-offs, so this could be a pre-curser for a post-season match-up.

Chiefs will be wary of Sammy Watkins, who led the Ravens with 96 receiving yards on his Baltimore debut last week, especially as the Kansas City defence was stretched at times.

Kansas City are 10/21 to win, as they have done in Baltimore on five of their last six visits, including a 34-20 victory on Monday Night Football last September.

The Ravens, 7/4 to win, went 10-5-1 ATS last season while the Chiefs covered just seven times in the regular season. The NFL betting tips handicap spread asks the Chiefs to successfully give up 3.5-points at odds of 10/11.

The total points line is set at 55 and it is 19/20 for fewer than 54.5 points to be scored. Two of Baltimore’s 18 games last season went over 55.5 total points scored.
