One Day series reaches decider as England chase down Australia

England put together their third-highest successful run chase in One Day Internationals last time out at Headingley to pull level in the current ODI series against Australia at 2-2.

Set a target of 300 runs by the Aussies to win at Headlingley and force the series to go the distance, the hosts rallied superbly with skipper Eoin Morgan continuing to lead by example. England will also be pleased with all-rounder David Willey’s showing last time out, as he took 3-51 and then smashed the six that secured victory, totaling 12 runs off nine balls. Tasty 10/3 odds say he will be their best bowler again.
Morgan hailed Willey’s contribution after replacing the injured Chris Woakes among hsis bowling options. “David Willey took advantage of the conditions,” he said. “Him producing a performance like that was outstanding.”
Spinner Moeen Ali found the Old Trafford pitch to his liking against the Aussies, however, and is a 4/1 alternative bet in that market. His consistent taking of wickets throughout this series press his claims, especially with the next one against Pakistan coming up.
Australia skipper Steve Smith spoke of fatigue and jadedness at the end of what has been a long tour, but middle-order batsman George Bailey and all-rounder Glenn Maxwell have improved their run scoring throughout the ODIs.
Magnificent Maxwell, who smashed 85 off 64 balls at Headingley is an 11/2 chance to put the Aussies’ expert batsmen to shame once again and be their best again. Bailey, meanwhile, is the same price. Aaron Finch was the tourists’ best at Old Trafford on Tuesday with 53, and is shorter at 7/2 to be top Australia batsman.
The Aussie attack will once again be led by pace bowler Pat Cummins, who recorded career best figures of 4-49 in One Day games at Headingley and also took two wickets in the first Old Trafford match.
Punters can enhance his 5/2 price to be the visitors’ top man with the ball by taking an 11/2 wincast, and if Australia are to record a result that clinches the series Cummins will have plenty to do with it.
