Odds cut on Roaring Lion for Epsom Derby triumph next month

Saxon Warrior still odds-on favourite

Coral’s traders have trimmed the odds of an Epsom Derby triumph for Roaring Lion to 5/1 (from 6/1), following confirmation the three-year-old will feature next month.

Having also recorded an impressive Dante Stakes win at York earlier this month, John Godsen’s charge is a firm second-favourite behind 4/6 frontrunner Saxon Warrior.

Elsewhere in the betting, Young Rascal is 10/1, while Dermot Weld’s Hazapour is 12/1 having placed in his last three races – winning at Leopardstown time out.

Coral’s David Stevens said: “Having beaten him in their two meetings to date, it’s right that Saxon Warrior remains a red-hot favourite for the Investec Derby, but Roaring Lion’s participation at Epsom breathes life into the Classic market, and he’s sure to be a popular each-way selection against the Guineas winner.”

There’s another odds-on favourite in the Coronation Cup, with Cracksman 1/2 for glory. Some way behind is last year’s Hardwicke Stakes winner Idaho at 6/1, while Poet’s Word (13/2) and Cliffs Of Moher (7/1) are close behind.
