Fizzypop Buddy to be punters’ pal in St Leger Final

The final of the St Leger (21:08) is the feature race on an excellent Open card at Wimbledon tonight screened live on Sky Sports 2 and defending champ T5 Fizzypop Buddy looks drawn to retain his crown.

June Harvey’s charge ran out the impressive winner of the competition 12 months ago and thrives around the Plough Lane circuit.

He has won eight of his 14 starts at the track and looked better than ever in last week’s semis when quickly away before staying on strongly to slam Rubys Rascal by seven lengths.

In doing so the son of Tubbertelly Dubh clocked a cracking 41.31, faster than anything his rivals achieved.

A repeat performance is going to make Fizzypop Buddy very difficult to beat and he looks well housed as the sole middle on the outside of four railers.

With T4 Huarache Madison sure to be cutting in on the run to the first bend, there is a possibility of crowding on the inside and if reproducing last week’s 16.23 sectional the selection is going to be hard to peg back if turning in front, or even handy.

Old Joe Golden drawn to deliver

T6 Old Joe Golden looks decent value to cash-in on what looks a good draw and land the spoils in division 2 of the 480m Standard (19:43).

Charlie Lister’s son of Premier Fantasy has won five of his 11 starts at the venue and has a 50 per cent strike rate when sporting the stripes.

He showed what he is capable of in the second round of this year’s Greyhound Derby when producing a lightning 4.70 sectional to flash from the lids and beat Calzaghe Billy by 2 1/2 lengths in a time of 28.36.

That reads extremely well in the context of this contest and Old Joe Golden comes into it on the back of an impressive wide margin success at Nottingham.

King Kid can reign supreme in Puppy Derby Final

T6 King Kid is in the form of his life at present and looks a worthy red-hot favourite in the Puppy Derby Final (19:59).

Liz McNair’s dog comes into the contest on the back of three straight successes over course and distance and could not have been more impressive in the semis five days ago.

The son of Droopys Scolari showed searing early pace to lead at the first bend before surging clear to beat Bridgehouse Boy by eight lengths.

In doing so he clocked 28.10 and that is two lengths and upwards quicker than anything his rivals achieved.

Acrobat holds all the aces

In division one of the 480m Standard (20:51), T3 Droopys Acrobat makes plenty of appeal at the odds on offer.

The dog had some top class form to his name in Ireland and has won five of his seven starts since joining trainer Richard Rees.

He has blistering early pace when timing it right at the lids and got badly crowded when sent off favourite and finishing fifth in the final of the British Breeders Stakes at Nottingham, when not ideally housed in Trap 1.

The switch back to the middle is sure to suit and Droopys Acrobat moved really well in a recent trial over course and distance when clocking a very respectable 28.43.

He is entitled to improve for that sighter and if turning the first bend in front has every chance of registering a trap-to-line success.
