Cousins impressing for Washington this year

Week 13 in the NFL kicks off with Thursday night’s titanic tussle between Washington and Dallas, with each team’s sights set on those crucial Wild Card spots.

And it’s the Redskins who look to have the edge in the most important area of all.

That’s the first of three key storylines the Coral News Team are looking at this weekend.

Redskins on course to finally dominate NFL’s ‘top rivalry’

Ranked by ESPN AND Sports Illustrated as the NFL’s ‘top rivalry of all time’, games don’t come fiercer than meetings between Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys.

The NFC East foes face off tonight. Both currently boast 5-6 records, and continue  their push for the Wild Card spots. But with the chase on for those elusive two spots, the loser will likely have to wait until 2018 for their shot at the Super Bowl.

Despite the Texas giants winning five of the past six meetings, the tide looks likely to turn at AT&T Stadium – with the two Quarterbacks in markedly different form.

Dallas’ Dak Prescott has thrown for under 200 yards in each of the past three matches. He’s also thrown five interceptions over the past two games, and will likely be easy prey for the Redskins’ defence.

By contrast, Washington’s Kirk Cousins has been in stellar form, throwing for five touchdowns in two games. That looks likely to be the difference in Dallas.

WAS Redskins look good value at 3/4 in the Money Line, though Redskins Total Points: Over 27/5 could prove the savviest selection of all at 19/10.

Chargers’ upcoming tests suggest they can win NFC West

Rewind three weeks, and it seemed that Kansas City Chiefs had the NFC West title wrapped up. However, they’ve now lost a trio of games, leaving them with a 6-5 record. That leaves the Chiefs a single victory ahead of Los Angeles Chargers and Oakland Raiders.

Of the two 5-6 sides, it’s the Chargers who have the best chance to overtake KC. On paper, their meeting with the 0-11 Cleveland Browns should be easy.

But the California outfit have already lost to poor Denver Broncos and Miami Dolphins sides this season.

Still, they do head into this game in strong form offensively. Running Back Melvin Gordon has been especially impressive, with nine touchdowns in 2017. So they should do enough to see off a poor Browns team.

LA Chargers are 1/12 in the Money Line, but with Anthony Lynn’s side racking up 82 points in their previous two games, the Coral News Team prefer Over 43.0 Points in this game at 19/20.

Steelers have quality to see off flat-track bullies Cincinnati

Cincinnati Bengals host Pittsburgh Steelers, in search of a third successive victory.

However, while fans of the Ohio outfit may still harbour hopes of the playoffs with their current 5-6 record, it’s Pittsburgh who are likely to all-but-confirm their place beyond the regular season.

The Bengals’ last three wins have all come against sides at the bottom of their respective divisions. By contrast, the Steelers have seen off each of the NFC North’s top two, as well as divisional rivals Baltimore Ravens.

With Cincinnati struggling against quality opposition, and Pittsburgh winning six games on the trot, the Coral News Team like the PIT Steelers -7.0 handicap at 29/20.
