Aaron Rodgers and his Green Bay Packers got week nine of the NFL season underway with a commanding 34-17 win over last season’s runners up, San Francisco 49ers.
The Packers extended their record to 6-2, while the 49ers slumped to 4-5 on the season and face the prospect of missing out on the playoff picture altogether.
With four teams on a bye week, we’ve got 12 fixtures to enjoy this weekend, as Kansas City Chiefs look to go 8-1, while Pittsburgh Steelers hope to remain the league’s only unbeaten side.
New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers face off early on Monday morning, before New York Jets remain on the hunt for their first win of the season against the Patriots on Tuesday morning. Ahead of the action, we’ve previewed our pick of week nine’s matchups.
Carolina Panthers @ Kansas City Chiefs (Sun 18:00)
Defending champions Kansas City Chiefs haven’t lost against the Panthers for 12 years, while you’d have to go back a further four years to find their last loss at Arrowhead Stadium against the Carolina side.
Chiefs are the 2/11 favourites on the Money Line to extend that record, while Panthers are 4/1 outsiders.
Only Atlanta Falcons Matt Ryan has thrown more passing yards than Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, while 21 passing touchdowns puts him among the leaders in that respect too.
Kansas wide receiver Tyreek Hill has claimed seven of those touchdowns, and he’s the 9/2 favourite to score the opener here too. Mahomes threw for five TD’s against the Jets last time out. Fancy the Chiefs to score over 4.5 TD’s again here? That’s 13/8.
Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey hasn’t yet shown the form he hit last season, only rushing for 161 yards and four TD’s so far, but he’s still the Panthers best hope of opening the scoring at 8/1.
Baltimore Ravens @ Indianapolis Colts (Sun 18:00)
Lamar Jackson’s Ravens suffered a narrow defeat to the Steelers last time out, picking up their second loss of the season, while the Colts come into week nine off the back of two wins.
Jackson may not have yet hit the heights that elevated him to MVP stardom last season, with just over 1300 passing yards, 411 rushing yards and a combined six touchdowns, but there’s still plenty to come.
Ravens are 4/5 favourites on the Money Line to get back to winning ways, while Colts are 21/20 to extend their winning streak in what could be a tight game to call.
The Baltimore side won the last meeting between the pair, with a 23-16 win in December 2017. Fancy under 40.5 points again? That’s 19/10.
Seattle Seahawks @ Buffalo Bills (Sun 18:00)
Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has looked majestic so far this season, leading the league with 26 passing touchdowns to his name, and a leading contender to become league MVP too.
On the other side, Josh Allen could be on for his best season as the Bills starting QB, already completing 186 passes with a completion percentage of just over 67%, nearly 10% higher than his previous best.
Wilson’s Seahawks are 3/5 favourites on the Money Line, but the Bills continue to impress and are 7/5 to send Seattle to their second defeat of the season.
DK Metcalf impressed in the Seahawks last win over the 49ers, receiving 12 passes for 161 yards and two touchdowns. He’s 13/2 to open the scoring, with Tyler Lockett 6/1 favourite.
Zack Moss claimed two rushing touchdowns in the Bills narrow win against the Patriots in week eight, and he’s 7/5 to score a touchdown anytime, with Allen 23/20.
Pittsburgh Steelers @ Dallas Cowboys (Sun 21:25)
You’d have to go all the way back to 1978 to find the last time Pittsburgh Steelers started a season this strongly, opening with seven straight wins on their way to a third Super Bowl title.
They face an all out of sorts Dallas Cowboys side and could end Sunday night with a historic 8-0 record. Could their first NFL championship since 2009 be edging ever closer?
Unsurprisingly, the Steelers are odds-on 1/11 favourites on the Money Line, with the off-colour Cowboys 13/2 to cause a shock.
Dallas have struggled without Dak Prescott pulling the strings, while Ezekiel Elliott has failed to have any sort of influence on America’s team. He’s 10/1 to score the first touchdown of the night.
Steelers running back James Conner has found the form of 2018 which led him to almost 1000 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. He’s 3333/1000 to score the first touchdown, while rookie Chase Claypool is 9/2 to score a brace.
New Orleans Saints @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Mon 01:20)
Did anyone really believe that the addition of Tom Brady, among others, would jump the Bucs to Super Bowl contenders so quickly? Defeats against Chicago Bears and Saints on opening week are the only blots on this season’s copy book so far.
But could Drew Brees and his Saints side inflict the third defeat of the season on Tampa? They handed them their first, so they know what it takes.
Bruce Arians has really found the sweet spot with the Bucs, and they’re 10/21 favourites on the Money Line to claim a precious victory, while the Saints are 7/4.
It was an attacking free-for-all in the first meeting of the season, with New Orleans claiming a 34-23 win. Think there’ll be over 56.5 points scored at the Raymond James Stadium? That’s 6/4.
Mike Evans and Rob Gronkowski each grabbed a TD in Tampa’s narrow win over the Giants last weekend. They’re 123/200 and 2/1 to score anytime respectively, while Alvin Kamara is the 5/1 favourite to score the first TD and claim his fifth of the season.
