NFL: Back Panthers, Dolphins and Broncos to beat the spread this weekend

Published:

The NFL season enters its third week, and Coral continue to offer great offers for their customers. Here, we tell you why you should consider backing individual odds-on favourites Carolina Panthers, Miami Dolphins and Denver Broncos all to win against the spread at an enhanced 7/1 price.

New Orleans Saints at Carolina Panthers (-8)
The Undefeated Panthers can extend their winning run on Sunday with victory over winless New Orleans at Bank of America Stadium.

Carolina are off to a great start this season, triumphing in both their first two games as they look to retain the NFC South title that they claimed last year. Their success has been built upon a rock-solid defense that currently ranks second in the league for least amount of points conceded.

The Saints meanwhile have been in disarray, losing both their opening two games, including last week’s shock defeat at home to underdogs Tampa Bay. Worse still, star quarterback Drew Brees suffered a shoulder injury in that match, and will now miss the trip to Carolina.

With journeyman backup Luke McCown coming in to start in his place, it is hard to see how a mediocre New Orleans offense can hope to pose much problems for this Panthers defense.

Meanwhile, Carolina wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr will pose a deep ball threat to a New Orleans defense that has given up four passing touchdowns so far in 2015 – Ginn is available at odds of 7/4 to score anytime.

The spread for this matchup is set at -8 points; however, punters can have faith that the Panthers will more than cover this differential behind a strong defensive effort.

Buffalo Bills at Miami Dolphins (-3)
Miami can lock up their second win of 2015 when they host Buffalo at Sun Life Stadium.

The Dolphins’ defense has been in good form early this season, allowing the fourth-least amount of points to opposing teams. On offense, quarterback Ryan Tannehill has been productive, throwing three touchdown passes and no interceptions for a 100+ passer rating.

Another strong passing performance from Tannehill could give Miami victory over the Bills here – Buffalo has the worst pass-defense in the league, allowing five touchdowns through the air. Passing touchdowns are therefore likely to be key to Miami winning this game by more than one score.

Dolphins wide receiver Jarvis Landry will hope to heap more misery on the Bills defense. Landry can be backed at 8/1 to score first on Sunday.

Denver Broncos (-3.5) at Detroit Lions
The visit of an unbeaten Denver side to Ford Field could scarcely have come at a worse time for winless Detroit.

Detroit’s offense is bruised and beaten up, with quarterback Matt Stafford suffering chest and rib injuries in last week’s brutal defeat to Minnesota.

Stafford will start the game Sunday night, but his fitness is in severe doubt, and he will have a hard time overcoming a dominant Denver defense which is ranked first overall in total defense in the NFL.

If the Lions find the aerial route blocked off, they will have to go via the ground. However, Detroit have the second-worst rushing attack in the league right now, averaging just 53.5 yards per game.

Thus the Broncos’ beastly defense can ensure a joyless night for the Lions. Meanwhile, all of Denver’s touchdowns this season have come through the air – and punters may therefore want to consider backing Broncos pass-catcher Emmanuel Sanders to score anytime, at evens with Coral.
