Next Swansea manager: Five contenders to follow Garry Monk

Swansea City will be seeking a swift appointment after taking the difficult decision to sack boss Garry Monk, after 11 years of service as player and coach.
Slipping to just a point above the Premier League’s bottom three, Coral make the Swans 7/2 chances for relegation, and talk that former manager Brendan Rodgers (15/2 to be their next boss) will return to the Liberty Stadium appears wide of the mark.
With that in mind, we look at five other bosses that could take on the Swansea job and seek to revive the fortunes of the south Wales side.
Lucien Favre
Swiss coach Favre twice took Borussia Monchengladbach into the Champions League group stage during four-and-a-half years with the Bundeliga boys.
Standing down in September, this would be an opportunity for the 58-year-old former Hertha Berlin and Zurich boss to manage in England.
David Moyes
Although initial reports claim former Manchester United manager Moyes is not interested in taking over this post, it would offer the Scot a route back into Premier League coaching.
The Swansea style of these last dozen years is at odds with the way Moyes sets his teams up, however, so a 7/2 price on his succeeding Monk must be taken with a pinch of salt.
Gus Poyet
Regarded as a coach with a bright future while in charge of Brighton and Hove Albion, Poyet’s credentials were damaged during his subsequent stint at Sunderland.
That firefighting work will not go unnoticed, though, and this one-time Uruguay, Tottenham and Chelsea hero may instill the passion into the Swans players that have been lacking. Poyet is an intriguing potential appointment at 7/4.
Jorge Sampaoli
Getting Monk’s predecessor Michael Laudrup came out of left-field, so coming in for Chile boss Sampaoli could prove inspired.
The Argentine coach is a known disciple of controversial compatriot Marcelo Bielsa, with both managers developing a penchant for unorthodox tactics. Sampaoli could be a breath of fresh air at the Liberty Stadium, but is an undoubted gamble at 14/1.
Mark Warburton
Rangers boss Warburton resisted reported overtures from Fulham to return to west London, but Swansea would offer him a first taste of Premier League football.
The Ibrox outfit issued a hands off warning when Craven Cottage came calling, however, and will likely do so again. Warburton is a 10/1 to move from Scotland to south Wales.
