Celestial Path a lively outsider in Cambridgeshire cavalry charge
Celestial Path looks decent each-way value in a typically fierce and wide-open renewal of the 1m 1f Cambridgeshire Handicap on a cracking seven-race card at Newmarket (16.10).
The Sir Mark Prescott trained four-year-old has some very smart form to his name as a juvenile and ran a blinder at this venue when a staying on 5 1/2 length fifth of 18 to Gleneagles in last year’s 2000 Guineas off an official rating of 110.
Celestial Path has failed to get his head in front in seven subsequent starts but has run some solid races to make the frame, including when third in a Listed contest at Kempton.
The colt also ran well three starts back when chinned close home and beaten a neck in a competitive 15-runner affair at York under a big weight and was then far disgraced next time up when encountering trouble in running and a staying on five length 10th of 19 to Franklin D at Glorious Goodwood.
Although not at his best last time out in a Group 3 at York, Celestial Path will appreciate the return to handicap company and a mark of 104 looks workable on the pick of his form.
Connections are also now fitting the son of Footstepsinthesand with a tongue-tie for the first time and refitting the cheekpieces he wore when runner-up at York.
Best Of Days to rule in Royal Lodge Stakes
Best Of Days lost little in defeat when runner-up last time out and looks the answer to the Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes (14.20).
The Hugo Palmer trained colt created a huge impression when scoring on debut at Sandown, cruising into contention from off the pace after dwelling at the start before quickening smartly to slam Wahash by six lengths.
Best Of Days was stepped up into Group 3 company on the back of that impressive success and ran a blinder to be beaten a neck by Syphax in the Acomb Stakes over 7f at York.
The son of Azamour looked all over the winner when taking up the running two from home but then showed distinct signs of greenness and got collared close home.
That experience will not have been lost on Best Of Days and with the step up to 1m looking sure to suit the Godolphin owned juvenile is fancied to get back to winning ways.
Cornwallville can collect in finale
In the 7f handicap that brings proceedings to a close (17.20), Cornwallville looks decent value to land the spoils.
Trained by the shrewd David Loughnane, the four-year-old posted a career best performance at Newbury last month when digging deep to beat Von Blucher by a short-head in a competitive 16-runner class 3 contest.
Cornwallville now meets the runner-up, and third home Charles Molson, on better terms and the fourth home Valley Of Fire has scored since to give the form a solid look.
Although the selection could finish only eighth of 17 last time out at Leopardstown, that was a hot class 1 contest and the return to the grade in which he was last successful is likely to see him in far better light.
With the ground ideal, and Adam Kirby in the saddle, everything looks in place for a huge run.
