Murray 9-4 for Wimbledon title following straight sets win

Andy Murray is 9-4 with bookmaker Coral to win the men’s Wimbledon Championship following his straight sets victory over Robin Haase this afternoon. The British number one has only 6-5 favourite Novak Djokovic ahead of him in the outright betting, while Murray has been subject to a huge patriotic gamble this year which would cost Britain’s bookmakers tens of millions of pounds if he were to win his second title at SW19.
There was also victory for James Ward this afternoon who is as big as 1000-1 with Coral in the outright betting, while 300-1 shot Heather Watson is keeping the British flag flying in the women’s competition she is the 8-1 underdog when she takes on number one seed Serena Williams tomorrow.
“Andy Murray has yet to put a foot wrong so far in this Championship and the support behind him in the betting is showing no sign of stopping as patriotic punters are convinced he is going to give them something to cheer about this summer with his second Wimbledon title at the world’s most famous tournament,” said Coral’s John Hill.
“As bookmakers, we are delighted it is not just Andy Murray flying the British flag at this stage of the competition. There has been lots of interest in James Ward who was well backed to beat Jiri Vesely, while there are plenty of punters who believe Heather Watson can pull oiff a huge upset by knocking out number one seed Serena Williams,” added Hill.
