Meydan scorer Lily’s Angel can win Snowdrop Stakes

A combination of a low draw and a high official rating looks to be the starting point for picking the winner in Saturday’s Snowdrop Stakes at Kempton, with Irish raider Lily’s Angel, Radio Gaga and Love Your Looks fulfilling both criteria.

The fact that Ger Lyons Lily’s Angel makes the trip over from County Meath vouches for the fact that connections must think she has a serious chance of landing this listed prize. According to official ratings in Dubai, where she won a handicap off a mark of 102, she’ll be at least 2lbs better off at the weights than her highest-rated rivals.

However being on the go throughout the winter has traditionally been a negative in a race where eight of the last nine winners were making their seasonal reappearance. Nonetheless in a race in which many of the fillies present have a somewhat chequered record at 1m, only Burke’s Rock and Stirring Ballad have a record comparable to the Lyons runner at Snowdrop Stakes trip.

The former finished a short head behind Belgian Bill on her seasonal return, ending a four race winning streak and with that rival finishing 11 lengths back in the Meydan handicap won by Lily’s Angel  the Andrew Balding inmate could have a bit to find with the Irish raider.

Love Your Looks has also landed a nice draw in stall three and the mount of Eddie Ahern has proven an admirable competitor in her career to date, finishing third in 10 of her 14 races. The Listed third on her last start represented a step forward considering she’d finished fifth and sixth in a German Group 3 and a Listed race in two runs prior to that one.

Radio Gaga would be one to keep on the right side of if returning in the kind of form which saw her entered in the 1000 Guineas last term, before beating comfortably beating Switcher over 7f.
