Man Utd v Man City Betting Tips: Can Red Devils derail City’s title bid?
Published:
Odds and preview for Premier League clash
Manchester United have a vital role to play in the Premier League title race tonight. But sadly for them, they’ll only determine which of their rivals are in the driving seat.
If they beat Manchester City, Liverpool will be on course for a first Premier League title. But if they lose the Manchester derby, City are firmly in control. Defeat could be a fatal blow for their top-four hopes too.
We’re in for a huge game at Old Trafford and you’ll find the pre-match odds here ahead of kick-off at 8:00pm on Sky Sports Premier League…
Head-to-Head
United have beaten City 73 times in total and lost on 52 occasions. There have also been 52 draws.
Around this time last year, City hosted United knowing that a win would see them lift the title. It’s a scenario their fans would have dreamed about. But after racing into a 2-0 lead, United fought back to win 3-2.
But City have had the better of the derby since Pep Guardiola arrived in England. Last season’s loss was their only league defeat to the Red Devils in the last three seasons.
The champions are also unbeaten on their previous three league visits to Old Trafford.
Likely XIs
Man Utd: De Gea; Young, Smalling, Lindelof, Shaw; Herrera, Matic, Pogba; Lingard, Rashford, Sanchez
Man City: Ederson; Walker, Stones, Laporte, Mendy; B. Silva, Fernandinho, D. Silva; Sterling, Aguero, Sane
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could make plenty of changes from the side that was so poor in defeat to Everton.
Luke Shaw returns from suspension, while Ander Herrera, Jesse Lingard and even Alexis Sanchez could come in.
City will be without the injured Kevin De Bruyne. That means Bernardo Silva should move into the middle, opening the door for Leroy Sane to start out wide.
Key Battles
Will we see the timid United from Sunday’s 4-0 loss or Goodison Park or will they want to restore some pride?
City’s recent encounters with Tottenham Hotspur have shown they can be vulnerable to speed in behind. If United can get the ball into Marcus Rashford, the England man could cause serious problems. They’ll need a big display from Paul Pogba too if they’re going to get anything.
But for Rashford and Pogba to have an impact, United will need to get hold of possession first. And if Nemanja Matic is as passive as he was at the weekend, the visitors will have no problem weaving their passing patterns.
