Odds and Preview ahead of crucial Premier League clash

Liverpool will be looking to take advantage of Manchester City’s involvement in the Carabao Cup final and creep above them in the Premier League table, but Manchester rivals United stand in their way.

The Reds haven’t beaten United at Old Trafford since March 2014, but Solskjaer’s side are coming off the back of a stunning 2-0 away win against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and will fancy their chances.

Ahead of this crucial battle, we’ve got all the odds and info on the match…

Head-to-head

Jurgen Klopp’s men battled hard to beat the Red Devils in December, coming away with a 3-1 win.

Sadio Mane and Xherdan Shaqiri scored for Liverpool, with the latter coming off the bench later on and netting twice to secure the points.

In the fixture at Old Trafford last season, the Red Devils picked up the three points with Mancunian Marcus Rashford scoring a double in a 2-1 win.

With United coming into the game off the back of their FA Cup win against Chelsea, Liverpool couldn’t break down Bayern Munich in their last match. They played out a 0-0 at Anfield on Tuesday night.

Likely XIs

Under former manager Jose Mourinho, Paul Pogba was made to sit on the bench in their first meeting between the two sides.

He’s flourishing under interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and will be instrumental in breaking down the Liverpool back-four.

Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard missed United’s last game through injury, and were both expected to be out for a minimum of two weeks. Surprisingly, in a huge boost for Solskjaer’s men, they could return for this clash.

In Liverpool’s mid-week Champions League battle, they had to do without centre-back Virgil van Dijk through suspension, but they’ll welcome him back in for this match.

They’re likely to remain without van Dijk’s partner Dejan Lovren, as he’s out with a hamstring injury, while Joe Gomez isn’t expected to return for a while as he faces surgery on a broken ankle.

Key Battles

Mohamed Salah is battling it out for the Golden Boot again this season, and he’ll be looking to add to his 17 league goals.

It’s likely to be the task of Phil Jones, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw to keep him quiet, with Salah holding down the right wing and drifting centrally when he gets the chance.

Rashford scored twice in this fixture last season, and he’s been scoring regularly since being given the number nine role under Solskjaer.

Van Dijk will be keeping an eye on him in what could be a thrilling battle to watch. Rashford’s raw pace and skill could get the better of Van Dijk’s brute strength.

Paul Pogba is the creative spark United were missing in the previous meeting, and he’s been in impressive form. Whoever plays in the centre-midfield role for the Reds will need to limit the opportunities for the French World Cup winner.

Match Odds

On current form, it’s a very even match up. Manchester United have home advantage and that could play into their hands. They’re 2/1 to take the points.

But Liverpool are still favourites to get the win. They’re 13/10 to win and regain the lead in the title race.

Rashford, Pogba and Romelu Lukaku are favourites to score first for the Red Devils. Our traders have them at 11/2 to break the deadlock.

Salah is favourite to net first for Liverpool and is sat at 4/1 to score the opener. He’s also available at 7/5 to score anytime.

With two attacking forces that can score for fun on their day, Both Teams to Score is 6/10. If you fancy a United win with both sides scoring, it’s 21/5. Liverpool are 16/5.
