Man City v Man Utd Betting Tips: Who’s going to rule Manchester?
Published:Preview and odds for Premier League clash
The red and blue halves of Manchester go into battle this afternoon as Manchester City host Manchester United.
League leaders City will be looking to maintain their unbeaten record. But United will feel like they can beat anyone after winning away to Juventus in midweek.
Add in the rivalry between Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho and it’s set up very nicely indeed. The Sky Sports cameras will have the action from 4:30pm. We’ll make sure you’re set with all the key info…
Head-to-Head
United may have not have come close to City in the table in recent years, but there hasn’t been much to split them on the pitch.
City have won four of the last 10 derbies, United have also won four, with two draws.
Mourinho’s side will be encouraged that the away side won both meetings last season.
Likely XIs
City rested Benjamin Mendy against Shakhtar Donestsk in the week. The left-back will regain his place here. Vincent Kompany could also come into defence. The champions have only lost one derby that he started since April 2015.
Gabriel Jesus got a hat-trick against Shakhtar, but that might not be enough to keep his spot ahead of Sergio Aguero. Riyad Mahrez may get the nod ahead of Leroy Sane on the right too.
After a stirring display from his side in Turin, Mourinho isn’t likely to change things too much. That means Ander Herrera is set to keep his place in midfield ahead of Fred.
He may be forced to make a switch in attack though as Alexis Sanchez is a doubt. If the Chilean can’t start, Marcus Rashford should get the nod.
Key Battles
City will dominate the ball as ever. If United just sit back, it’s only a matter of time before Guardiola’s side make the breakthrough.
The visitors have plenty of speed in attack, as well as the guile of Juan Mata. City aren’t used to playing on the back foot. If the Red Devils can get the ball into the final third quickly, they could cause real problems.
The hard part will be getting the ball off the likes of the two Silvas, David and Bernardo. They’ll be looking to set Aguero and Raheem Sterling in behind.
Match Odds
City are 4/11 to win here, with United out at 7/1. It’s 4/1 for the draw.
Guardiola’s side will be looking to avenge their defeat in this fixture last year, which delayed their title-winning celebrations. City and Over 2.5 Goals is going for 17/20.
But the home side can’t afford to take their foot off the gas if they do go ahead. United have come from behind to beat Bournemouth and Juventus in their last two outings. They turned a two-goal deficit into a 3-2 win here last term too. They’re 33/1 to win from behind this afternoon.
In the goalscoring markets, Aguero leads at 3/4 anytime and 14/5 to score first.
Sterling has three goals in his last two appearances. We go 5/4 that he gets another here.
United will be hoping Anthony Martial can net in the fifth league game running. He’s 16/5 to mark his return to the France squad with a goal.
