Lingfield preview: Wind In My Sails weighted to go well

Published:

Wind In My Sails caught the eye last time out and looks to have plenty going for him in the 7f handicap on today’s all-weather card at Lingfield (15.40).

The Ed de Giles-trained colt raced up with the pace and held every chance a furlong from home before being unable to quicken and finishing a 3 1/4 lengths fifth to Volunteer Point in a 1m contest at Haydock.

Wind In My Sails is sure to be suited by the drop back to 7f judged on that effort, and the form of the race looks strong in the context of this contest.

The winner, runner-up and fourth have all come out since and posted solid efforts to make the frame in higher grade affairs, and the third home Resonant has scored since and is now rated 86.

Given that Resonant finished just over a length in front of Wind In My Sails, it makes the son of Footstepsinthesand look potentially very well-treated off a mark of just 70.

The three-year-old also remains unexposed an open to further improvement after just five starts, and another plus is that Wind In My Sails posted a really solid effort on his sole previous try over course and distance when given too much to do before staying on strongly to finish third.

Wind In My Sails also has the services in the saddle of promising young jockey Kevin Stott who is good value for his 3lb claim, and taking it into account he looks weighted to take all the beating.

In the 5f handicap (14.40), course specialist Picansort can take advantage of his plummeting mark to land an overdue success.

The Peter Crate-trained gelding is a six-time winner at the track, and five of those successes have come over this afternoon’s trip.

In the last of those, the eight-year-old came with his customary late run to beat Go Nani Go by a length off a mark of 84.

Picansort is now able to race off 10lb lower, and that makes the son of Piccolo thrown-in at the weights on the pick of his form.

The veteran also gets on particulalry well with jockey Shane Kelly, who has partnered him to seven of his eight career successes, and everything looks in place for a huge run.
