Lingfield and Southwell previews: Saborido can cash-in on class drop

Saborido has a super chance at Lingfield
Saborido has a superb record in class 5 company and can further enhance it with victory in the 2m handicap on this evening’s card at Lingfield (20.20).
The Amanda Perrett trained 10-year-old has a strike rate of just under 48 per cent in the the grade, winning 10 times and being placed on six occasions from 21 starts.
Saborido is also a course and distance winner, and was last victorious in a class 5 affair at Kempton back in September 2014 when scoring off a mark of 81.
The veteran also ran well to finished third at Kempton last August off 85, and is now able to race of a reduced rating of 75.
That gives him outstanding claims at the weights, especially now dropped back down into class 5 company for the first time since last successful.
Saborido also has a success rate of just under 24 per cent when ridden by Jim Crowley, and he is now back in the saddle for the first time this season.
Panell’s Dream can collect for in-form Beckett
Trainer Ralph Beckett has his team in fine form and Parnell’s Dream looks to hold leading claims of providing him with another victory in the 1m 4f handicap (19.50).
The filly got off the mark when landing a handicap at Haydock on her final start last season and shaped with plenty of promise on return to action at Doncaster when weakening late on to finish third.
Parnell’s Dream then ran better than the bare result suggest when fifth of nine in a class 3 contest at Goodwood, making good headway from off the pace two from home before being eased after getting hampered to be beaten just over four lengths.
The three-year-old should now be spot on to do herself justice, and is able to race in this less taxing class 4 affair off 1lb lower.
A revised rating of 70 is just 2lb higher than when scoring at Haydock, and Parnell’s Dream remains open to further improvement and hails from a yard that has a 25 per cent strike rate with its runners at the track in the past 12 months.

Native Display to take centre stage at Southwell
Trainer Nicky Henderson does well with his rare runners at Southwell and the in-form Native Display can provide him with another success in the 2m 4f handicap hurdle on this evening’s card at the Nottinghamshire venue (19.05).
The Lambourn handler has a strike rate of 43 per cent with his runners at the track in the past 12 months (three wins and one placed from seven runners), and in Native Display has a gelding who has shown improved form since going down the handicap route.
After opening his account with a cosy 3/4 length success at Plumpton, Native Display ran well to finish third off 8lb higher at the same venue.
The six-year-old backed that up with a cracking 1 3/4 length second of 10 to Perspicace at Worcester when last seen in action, and the winner has since come out again and scored off 8lb higher to give the form a boost.
It makes a further 2lb rise in the weights for Native Display look fair, and a revised mark of 108 should not be beyond the well-bred son of Presenting.
Mr Shantu has plenty going for him
In the 3m handicap hurdle (20.35), Mr Shantu can build on a promising recent return to action to land the spoils.
The Jonjo O’Neill trained gelding ran out the decisive winner at Warwick last September before running a blinder to finish a 2 1/4 length runner-up to Dark Spirit in a competitive class 2 contest at Cheltenham off a mark of 130.
Mr Shantu then flopped in the mud at Bangor and was given a 172-day break before catching the eye when fourth to The Tourard Man at Warwick last month.
After making steady headway from the rear, the seven-year-old got outpaced approaching two from home before keeping on under tender handling to be beaten nine lengths.
That run should have blown away the cobwebs and put Mr Shantu spot on for this, and he has since been eased 1lb in the weights.
The son of Shantou is now able to race off just 2lb higher than his fine effort at Cheltenham, and gives Mr Shantu major claims from a handicapping perspective in this lower grade class 3 contest.
