Leicester edge further clear of the drop zone with win over Newcastle

Leonardo Ulloa’s goal in the first minute set the tone for this game at the King Power Stadium, as Leicester City ran out 3-0 winners over Newcastle United.
Leicester were totally dominant from start to finish, and once ahead never looked like conceding, or relinquishing their position. When Ulloa connected from a corner with a bullet header, Tim Krul had no chance as soon as the ball left the centre forward’s head.
The visitors rallied, attempting to carve out chances after their initial shock at being behind so early, though Spaniard Ayoze Perez dragged his effort disappointingly wide, while Jonas Gutierrez’s effort from a free-kick was speculative at best.
On 17 minutes, after Newcastle failed to make their few chances count, the Foxes doubled their advantage. Ulloa involved once again, it was his flick on from a free-kick, which allowed Wes Morgan to connect with Krul once again well and truly beaten.
The Magpies best chance in the first half was perhaps, Ryan Taylor’s stinging pile driver which goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel reacting instinctively with Esteban Cambiasso clearing. Five minutes before the interval, the hosts could have been 3-0 up after Matt James connected with a shot, however his effort went just wide.
After the interval, Leicester begun the second half very much in the same style as the first, when Ulloa fired home a penalty, following a clumsy challenge from Newcastle’s French striker Emmanuel Riviere on right back Marcin Wasilewski.
Not long after, Marc Albrighton could and perhaps should have made it four to Leicester though he fired wide of the goal following good work from Cambiasso and Jeffrey Schlupp, while centre back Robert Huth’s effort hit the side netting, when Mahrez lofted in a free-kick.
It was all Leicester in the second half, and this could have been a cricket score. Newcastle all of a sudden look in danger of relegation.
