Published:Preview of the 2021/22 League Two title race
The League Two title race seems to be a procession for Forest Green with Rob Edwards’ side clear at the top. The chasing pack are not getting close, but we analyse the contenders the claims of both Forest Green and the other promotion hopefuls in our League Two winner odds.
As well as a look at the fourth tier of the football league, you can also view our Championship and League One previews.
Forest Green
Their march to the title seems impossible to stop, reflected by odds of 1/12 to lift the trophy.
Rob Edwards’ side recently blew near rivals Tranmere away 4-0 on their own patch and they sit eight points clear with a game in hand.
Rovers’ consistency has been impressive and they have lost just twice all season.
Tranmere
The home humbling to Forest Green was a shock but they remained second and in a good position, bouncing back with a win over Stevenage.
Micky Mellon has taken Shrewsbury out of the fourth tier before and knows what to do during a run in.
Promotion could be on the cards, but with League Two winner odds of 25/1 , there seems little confidence they can catch the leaders.

Northampton
The Cobblers’ promotion hopes have taken a hit in 2022 with three of their eight league defeats coming since the turn of the year.
The title now looks beyond them and they have League Two winner odds of 25/1, but nevertheless, they remain in the top four and well in contention for an automatic promotion place.
Sutton
The newboys have continued their momentum after promotion from the National League last season.
At 33/1 there is little expectation them to follow it up with another title triumph, but they are well in contention for promotion to the third tier.
Sitting fourth is an impressive achievement and they could take points off the leaders when they face them in February.
Mansfield
Nigel Clough’s side rank level with Sutton with League Two winner odds of 33/1 despite being behind the south Londoners in the table. .
They have lost just once in the league since the end of October and have momentum which could be crucial.
A trip to Newport in February and a game at Tranmere a month later could prove season-defining.
Great to see Nigel Clough reeling off 14 wins in 16 at Mansfield. He’s the manager the Premier League forgot. Different. No ego. Good football. Sense of perspective.

Newport
Like Tranmere they have lost a quarter of their games – seven – and at 33/1 in our League Two winner odds, represent an outside bet to win the division.
They face rivals Northampton, Mansfield and Tranmere before the end of the month in a series of crucial games.
