League One: Gillingham gunning to inflict more Wigan woes

Wigan hosts Gillingham in midweek clash
Second-placed Gillingham make the trip to the DW Stadium for Thursday night’s live televised League One encounter with fellow promotion hopefuls Wigan Athletic, with nine points currently separating the two sides.
This third tier pair hold a pretty even head-to-head record, with the hosts having won 13 of their 33 previous meetings, while the visitors are narrowly more successful with 14 former victories and six draws occurring to date.
Although, it’s the Justin Edinburgh’s Gills that have gained the upper-hand most recently after their fixture triumph back in August last year, earning a 2-0 result, and they are 3/1 with Coral for further success this time out.
Gary Caldwell’s Latics were building momentum with two consecutive victories over Barnsley and Fleetwood Town recently but could only draw with Scunthorpe United last time out, and the home outfit are 11/5 to win to nil here.
Wigan’s Wildschut missing for this meeting
Yanic Wildschut will not feature for Caldwell’s Latics in their latest match-up with Gillingham after the frontman returned to parent club Middlesbrough during the January transfer window.
Although, the club are hopeful of securing a deal for him to return for the remainder of this current campaign, with the forward having struck four goals in 17 appearances in his initial loan stint.
Grant Holt could return after a brief spell with Wolves and is 5/1 to score the game’s last goal, while on-loan Everton midfielder Francisco Junior is unlikely to don a Wigan shirt again after sustaining a hernia problem.
Meanwhile, Key marksman Will Grigg is 9/2 to open proceedings on his latest club outing, after notching up eight goals already on all fronts this term.
Dack targets more Wigan woes
For the Gills, striker Luke Morris could once again be part of the squad despite picking up a knee injury during his side’s fourth successive win over Bradford City and is 11/4 to dispatch anytime this time around.
Gills midfielder Bradley Dack clinically tucked in a brace to earn that 2-0 triumph in these two team’s last domestic duel, and he is 2/1 for another goal on his visit to Wigan.
The 22-year-old netted in the first-half before adding from the penalty spot in the second on home soil that day and has since been in fine form, recently bringing his impressive season tally to 13 strikes in all competitions.
