2000 Guineas thoughts
Field Of Gold is the standout runner in the field. If he puts in the same performance as his trial, he is going to be hard to beat. John Gosden often leaves a little back with his horses on their first run, so I think he was only 90% fit during his trial victory. If he improves again, they will be fighting for second place.
5.10 – Canvas
He was a little out of his depth at Newmarket last time out, but he is now back at his own level. If he can reproduce some of his best form, he is now off a mark he can take advantage of. It doesn’t look the strongest of races, so we are not without a chance.
6.20 – Perry Mason
It was a smart debut at Newmarket last season, but he has not featured since then. This won’t be an easy task for him as he must carry 10st 2lb. If he builds on his Newmarket performance, I should imagine he will be in the mix, but to be fair to the horse, he is entitled to need this run.
6.50 – Gemini Star
She hit the frame on her seasonal reappearance at Leicester. Alice Haynes’ horses have just been needing that first run this year. I’d be disappointed if she got beat here. This is a winnable mark for her, and she has been working well at home. I’d rate this as my best chance of the weekend.
