Kempton tips: Course specialists Cryptic and Gavarnie Encore can collect again
Published:Cryptic bets: Cumani gelding to land Kempton tips hat-trick
Cryptic bets look well worthwhile in the 1m handicap tonight (20:10), as he’s developed into a real Kempton specialist.
Luca Cumani’s gelding can defy a further rise in the weights to make it three on the spin at the Sunbury-on-Thames venue. Cryptic also finished second on the other of his four starts around this track.
He comes into the race right at the top of his game, after landing back-to-back successes over course and distance. In the last of those 14 days ago, Cryptic posted a career-best effort when scoring cosily by half-a-length.
The son of Lord Shanakill was well on top at the finish to score with more in hand than the winning margin suggests. A 4lb rise in the weights looks more than fair, given his excellent course form.
Another plus is Cryptic hails from an in-from yard that has a tremendous strike rate of 33 per cent at the track in the past 12 months. Once again he has the services of Pat Cosgrave in the saddle, who has partnered him to his last two successes.
Gavarnie Encore each-way has plenty going for him
Gavarnie Encore is another that runs the track well and looks cracking each-way value in the 1m handicap (19.40).
Michael Blanshard’s four-year-old has won three times and been placed on six occasions from 14 starts at the venue.
Gavarnie Encore is now able to race off a reduced rating of 50 – 1lb lower than when easily beating Pikes Corner Cross over course and distance back in March by 2 3/4 lengths.
It gives him major claims at the weights round a track which clearly brings out the best in him, especially if the fitting of the cheekpieces for the first time has the desired effect.
Doctor Parkes weighted to deliver
In the 6f handicap that brings proceedings to a close (21:10), Doctor Parkes can capitalise on a drop in the weights to land a 13th career success.
The Stuart Williams trained 10-year-old is a course and distance winner, who is now running off a mark 7lb lower than when last successful in a claimer at Lingfield back in March.
Doctor Parkes has also run well on numerous occasions since that victory, including when close-up sixth of 21 in a competitive class 4 affair at Ascot and a solid third at the venue on his penultimate outing.
The veteran is a tricky customer who needs things to drop right but, if they do, looks weighted to take all the beating on the pick of his form in what doesn’t look the strongest of class 6 contests.
